An emerging leader of his generation, Jake has reached thousands of people through his blog posts, inspirational videos and motivational talks at high schools. At 19, he has been featured in Psychology Today, Thought Catalog, Pick the Brain, The San Diego Union Tribune, and various other sites and media outlets.

More than 150 people from eight countries helped him fund a Kickstarter campaign to publish his inspirational memoir, Off the Beaten Trail: A Young Man’s Soul-Searching Journey Through Central America. Jake was a well-adjusted Dean’s List student who dropped out of college after becoming depressed, anxious and developing hives. The image was crystal clear, and while at the time the book was just an idea, it turned into a purpose-driven mission.

I started my travels from a low place--dealing with anxiety, depression, a chronic skin condition. I'd lost all my confidence and self-esteem and was beginning to feel hopeless. After taking the leap of faith to leave an unfulfilling path to pave a new one, my problems began to dissipate and I began to see the world in a new light.

The transformation I went through in just a few months - coupled with the powerful lessons I learned and the insights I was taking away - made me realize that I had to write this book. By sharing my story, I knew I could give readers the inspiration to acknowledge their own story and find the courage to pursue their dreams/passions.

“Powerful and meaningful change starts with the efforts of one single individual.”

“People are never actually ready for anything in life. Paradoxically, this also signifies that people are always ready. We wouldn’t be breathing if we weren’t ready. We are never fully ready for anything, and that is what makes us ready for everything.”
Jake Heilbrunn, Off the Beaten Trail: A Young Man's Soul-Searching Journey Through Central America

“If you fuel your journey on the opinions of others, you are going to run out of gas.”
Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience

“It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”
Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

“The prospect of change is often scary, not because of what will be, but because of what we think it might be.”
