Orysia, the daughter of Ukrainian immigrants, understood several languages in her post WWII neighbourhood in northern Ontario. Now she writes in English, but draws on her life experiences for her historical fiction, as well as her observations of animal and human behaviour. Her latest projects have taken her under the sea to explore a world of hybrid creatures that may or may not exist. In between, she resides on land and records the lives of specialized dogs that work with their human partners to protect sheep, cattle and poultry from serious predators.

And write every day, just a few sentences, stray thoughts, anything at all. For many writers it is important to create a routine, set aside time on a schedule that works for you. If you know someone else who wants to write, set up a check in with each other, perhaps one day a week, where you report on your writing progress for that week. It can be helpful to be 'accountable' to someone else besides yourself, and if you are both writers, so much the better!(less)

At the end of the second book, Kira's Quest, Kira was thirteen and she had found her biological parents. Five years later, she is ready to take a huge step toward a career as marine botanist, when a strange merrow shows up in her village, and others appear in the sea. There is talk of an alliance with the foreign merrows to finally drive the finfolk out of their ancestral home, Merhaven. Kira has inherited the throne from her father who can no longer take his merrow form. That is a lot for a young merrow to take on, but it is nothing compared to what follows operation 'free Merhaven'.

Currently I am working on a dog memoir. Since this dog, Asil Akkush cannot write, and in fact is dead, I have taken the liberty of telling his story from his perspective. I've been involved with Turkish livestock guardian dogs for decades, and in the last century I co-wrote a book on these types of guardian dogs (yes, I've been around a long time). So I believe I can represent this one particular dog, his life and adventures as a travelling stud dog whelped (born) in Turkey and working his way across North America. Stay tuned!(less)
