“Charlie stood there like a stone monolith, blinking at his friend. Former friend? Christ. Eventually, he managed to utter, “So it’s like that, then?”
Sean visibly swallowed, stood up straight, and seemed to force himself to meet Charlie’s provoking gaze. “It is exactly like that,” he replied, brave as can be.”

“…Jake caught the briefest glimpse of a demure set of pale pink lingerie, and then Molly was airborne—jumping feet-first into the deep end. She swam underwater like a mermaid, finally coming up for air near the center of the pool. Her hair was slicked back on her skull, shining and as dark as melted chocolate and Jake was frozen to the spot by
So. Much. Molly. All on display for him. God—she was really, really wet.

“Packing some heat there, aren’t you Officer?”
Jake looked down and yanked on the hem of his blazer. “Don’t you worry about that, miss,” he chuckled. “That’s for later.” He pecked her on the cheek and steered her toward the door.
“We have got to stop meeting like this,” Molly grumbled, irritated by his nonchalance. Her legs felt like jelly and she tottered on her heels, making her even more annoyed.
Jake steadied her—of course he did. “Really?” he asked, the soul of civility. “I disagree.” ”

“Well, I am also pretty confident that I’ve got your number,” Jake told her, glancing at her again. Could eyes dance? Because his baby-blues appeared to be dancing. At minimum, they were annoyingly sparkly.
“Please,” Molly scoffed. “You don’t know anything about me.” She hoped.

“Owen folded his arms around Morgan to steady her when she crashed into him, and was enveloped by her scent, her warm softness. When she gave a scared little scream, he tightened his arms in a protective reflex. She fit him perfectly, he noted distractedly. And she was soaked: he'd seen her come in from the rain, her expression frantic, just as he had rushed in the front door. His shirt was plastered to his chest between them.
"Hi Honey, I'm home," he breathed, astounded to be holding her at last. ”

“Morgan closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “Maybe you’re right,” she sighed, “We should probably wait.”
Owen drew back, and she could feel him studying her. She waited as long as she could stand it before she opened her eyes and grinned. He chuckled, low in his throat, a predatory gleam in his eye.
“Not a chance,” he muttered, closing in. ”
