I could spend a morning writing a review of this book, but I haven't the time.
Suffice it to say, that I pretty much read the 400 pages in two sittings - and I am a slow reader. It is completely gripping.
It is also remarkably well-written and insightf

This is well worth a read. I almost gave it 4* but it is ghost-written and it's not a literary tour de force. However, if you want to know how Harry feels about things, it's helpful. It's also not a challenging read and it's easy to turn the pages.

Alexander Bell is on page 300 of 410 of Spare: Very readable even if Harry hasn’t quite grasped that the Royal Family only exist because of the media. Without media interest, the Royal Family would be an irrelevance. One might argue that it already is.

The Trading Game by Gary Stevenson
"Holy crap. This was not what I expected. A couple of takeaways:

1. I do NOT want to be a trader, for Citibank or for anywhere else.
2. The author is a little bit of an asshole, and if I met him I wouldn't know whether to shake his hand, give him a hug" Read more of this review »

An excellent book on the nefarious deeds of the repugnant Freddie Scappaticci, aka Stakeknife, the British agent. He comes across as a murderous thug whose motivation for betraying his so-called comrades remains moot. If I were to hazard a guess, I w ...more

Martin Amis
“Little did they know that the place they were about to burgle -- the shop, and the flat above it -- had already been burgled the week before: yes, and the week before that. And the week before that. It was all burgled out. Indeed, burgling, when viewed in Darwinian terms, was clearly approaching a crisis. Burglars were finding that almost everywhere had been burgled. Burglars were forever bumping into one another, stepping on the toes of other burglars. There were burglar jams on rooftops and stairways, on groaning fire-escapes. Burglars were being burgled by fellow burglars, and were doing the same thing back. Burgled goods jigged from flat to flat. Returning from burgling, burglars would discover that they themselves had just been burgled, sometimes by the very burglar that they themselves had just burgled! How would this crisis in burgling be resolved? It would be resolved when enough burglars found burgling a waste of time, and stopped doing it. Then, for a while, burgling would become worth doing again. But burglars had plenty of time to waste -- it was all they had plenty of, and there was nothing else to do with it -- so they just went on burgling.”

“And meanwhile time goes about its immemorial work of making everyone look and feel like shit.”

“Life is made of fear. Some people eat fear soup three times a day. Some people eat fear soup all the meals there are. I eat it sometimes. When they bring me fear soup to eat, I try not to eat it, I try to send it back. But sometimes I'm too afraid to and have to eat it anyway.”

“I have always derived great comfort from William Shakespeare. After a depressing visit to the mirror or an unkind word from a girlfriend or an incredulous stare in the street, I say to myself: 'Well. Shakespeare looked like shit.' It works wonders.”

“Everything's already been said, but since nobody was listening, we have to start again.”
