It's happened sufficiently frequently to me over the years now that I'm able to look back and remind myself that I always came out the other side. I've developed certain tricks - moving on to a different part of the narrative, or leaving everything for several days to give the subconscious time to work on it. (less)

Well, the only thing that does is when I come across feedback from readers and learn that a novel has really struck a chord or spoken to someone. There'll always be a proportion of people who don't like or get a book, but when someone really enjoys and relishes it, that's also very hard to beat.(less)
