Chele {Shell} is in love with love, mysteries, spirituality and time twists, and because "life's a sitcom," she is a sucker for comedies. She loves adding humor and mystery to any situation and genre.

She enjoys the wild ride of writing "off the cuff," not knowing exactly where the 'what ifs" will take her. You'll often find her nestled in the breakfast nook overlooking a woodsy Massachusetts view with her golden retriever and a mug of decaf-- if it's not waiting under the brewer for hours, forgotten as usual. Add snow and writing chocolate: Perfect!

When not immersed in imaginary characters, Chele is a pharmacy technician and college writing tutor. She loves going to movies and plays, traveling to new places, and thinks any day is Taco Tues

In Behind Frenemy Lines, it started as a chapter by chapter surprise for my husband. When I added backstories and began shaping the star players into solid characters, I carved Lee into someone very likable, but not perfect. Yet, I found him to be just right. I fell in love with him, and wanted him to romance me! I wanted my husband to take cues from Lee.
It's also great therapy. If something happens in my life, especially when I was a budding adult right out of High School, new to experiences, it had a way of worming into my writing. I got fired from a fast food restaurant, but it was a misunderstanding. I was helping the elderly customer decide on a combo meal or single item, but the manager thought I was being slow. I cried on my walk home; it hurt my young feelings! Well, it happened to Sherri, my main character in a teen mystery series, and it helped me deal with the unfair situation.
Being a writer means having a special way of seeing incidents around me. I can turn an ordinary errand, such as potted trees being replaced in our Disney hotel rooms, or automated phone calls from our town power company about a 3 a.m. outage to replace transformers, into suspicious events. Read my book to see how they play out. (less)

Four O’Clock is Hard, but it was Supposed to be Five.

She was persistent! That cute brat of a face, all eager eyes and whiskers. Bossed by her belly, her snout bumped our hands, shouting “Feed me; feed me now!”

We tried to train her to wait until five, but somehow her prancing, tap-dancing whines ruled the game. And so a four o’clock dinner it was… for eleven years.

Daylight savings meant nothing to her. "Time falling back” is hard to explain to a gold Read more of this blog post »

Chele Smith Hi Donna,
Thanks for the friending and your interest. Do you prefer paperbacks or e-books? I feel more comfortable holding and bending a paperback--sacrilege, I know!--but my books are available in both forms.
I do have a new book coming out in the next week or so if I can stop tweaking it. The Pearly Gates Phone Company is completely different from the romantic comedy spy mystery, Behind Frenemy Lines. It's a creative nonfiction collection of spiritual shorts, featuring mini miracles that have happened throughout my life. A few friends have contributed stories as well.
One challenge of writing is finding time to do it. I've been writing since junior high but of course, life happened along the way, and my passion was set aside for schools, careers, and kids. A few years ago in 2013, we relocated for my husband's job and I had to leave mine. I didn't look for work right away in order to assure my daughter was settled, and then before we knew it, we adopted a puppy. I suddenly found the time to write fiction again. And it reopened a passionate identity that was lost a long time ago. I'm happy to embrace that self again.
You know the old adage, "Write what you know"? Well, it's the best place to start. And that's the first novel I started writing in 2013. It's based on a true story with lots of added fictional elements. It's halfway done and I hope it becomes book number three.
I also began seeing ordinary events as suspicious story lines. An automated call about a 3 am power outage got the wheels turning. At Disney a few summers ago, our hotel maintenance crew went room to room swapping out wilting trees for healthier plants. I knew it had to work its way into a story. I also have plans to refresh teen mysteries I wrote in the 80s. Especially one, in particular, that's based on an unusual event in my younger life.
I joke that writing is a starving artist category. So it requires patience. I'm just starting out this year, so I know it takes time. I'm grateful for readers, followers and friends on Goodreads. It makes me feel like I'm going somewhere. My favorite part is creating characters. And I'm excited to share them with the world.

Donna Chele, thanks for friending me on Good Reads.
Is it difficult being a writer and figuring out what you are going to write about? Will you have another book come out soon?
You are a new author to me and I am looking forward to reading your book.
Donna
