Vacation 2010

My vacation is fast approaching and as every year I'm going exploring. Sort of. To hide from these high temperatures (no so high anymore, but let's not split hairs), I'm running off to Scandinavia, visiting Denmark (Copenhagen) for a day, spending 8 days in Norway (from Oslo, through Lillehammer, Gudbrandsdalen valley, Trondheim, Bodo, Lofoten, Vesterali, Tromso, Alta, all the way to North Cape), then 4 days in Finland visiting Santa's village and Rovaniemi, then taking the train or bus to...

Lord of the Dance

I've been a big fan of Michael Flatley's since I glimpsed a piece of Feet of Flames on TV one evening in 1999 or 2000, I'm not sure. At first I had no idea what was going on…A guy was stepping the heck off the stage, then they showed the entire stage, I heard the music…And I (and my mom in the process) was hooked. I had to buy the VHS (there was no DVD at the time), then I bought the CDs (both of Feet of Flames and the original show, Lord of the Dance), and a couple of years later I finally g...

Robin Hood

10 years after Gladiator I saw Russel Crowe at the movies again. This time he took on the guise of Robin Hood and thanks to Mr. Ridley Scott as director, a great story and a wonderful cast, this is by far the best Robin Hood movie ever, IMHO.

And yes, I freely admit, I've fallen in love with Mr. Crowe once more…Or maybe I've never fallen out of it at all. Who knows.

The only thing I do know is that I cannot wait until this movie comes to DVD. But I guess I'll go see it at the theater a few...

Reviews

I received an e-mail today from a visitor to my blog/website. Said visitor commented/complained on me reviewing books I've read and posting them on the world wide web. The comment was actually about the "bad reviews". Apparently, since I'm a romance author, giving bad reviews of other author's work and posting them is a big no-no. In doing so I'm apparently peeing in my own pool.

Wow. Who would've thought that since I'm an author I'm not entitled to my own opinion. What about that fabled...

A good movie year

I was at the movies yesterday afternoon, an early girl-power get-together if you will. We went to see Leap Year, but what got my attention were the trailers before the actual movie. Some pretty good flicks are coming this year…There's the hilarious The Bounty Hunter, When in Rome, Iron Man 2… And I'll see Russell Crowe at the movie once again. Ten years after Gladiator I'll see him as Robin Hood (again directed by Ridley Scott). As soon as I saw the trailer, I knew what it was about without a...

Picking up speed…

toward the FIS World Cup finals in Garmisch. As "promised" I watched the race today, keeping my fingers crossed, and boy, was it great or what? A bit scary with bib No.4 crashing out, but a lovely race nevertheless, making me wish I was actually there, up north with all that sunshine – I turned a deaf ear when they told the temperature [image error] .

Anyway, congrats to Didier (Lady Luck is back, it seems), Aksel (wishing you all the best on defending the title), and Klaus. You boys did a great job (and a...

Weird nights

It's been a weird, make that very weird, couple of nights. Maybe it's the moon, maybe I'm just tired, or maybe I'm simply getting old, but it's been a freakishly weird couple of nights.

I heard voices (maybe it was the neighbors or I'm just going insane), I had super weird dreams about hazelnut cake recipes, and my body aches like someone ran me over with a truck. A big truck with small tires so it took many tries to get it right.

I just hope this funk ends soon. *sigh*

"I'm feeling very Olympic"

I have to admit I had rather mixed feelings about this year's Winter Olympic games in Vancouver. Why? Because I had rather mixed feelings about the previous ones in Torino as well. Why? Because my favorite male figure skater (Alexei Yagudin) retired and besides skiing I'm not much of a winter sports fan.

Well, since I'm not watching figure skating, I could concentrate on the skiing events that I somehow neglected in Torino. I've been following the FIS World Cup quite zealously this year, so...

Subtitle frenzy

I discovered a new passion lately, and my reading has suffered accordingly. I've been swept by the subtitling frenzy. No idea why, but I like it. It's rather tough work, especially if you have to set ans sync them yourselves, but when I actually finish one…Oh, joy.

Well, my first one was a translation of The Princess and the Frog, but now I've graduated into syncing them as well. You see, there was this Italian TV miniseries in 2007 called La figlia di Elisa and a bunch of my forum "friends" o...

Avatar

[image error] [image error]

Yep. I think I have a new favorite movie. It's James Cameron's Avatar. In both the 3D and "normal" versions. Usually, people when the weather is as it is around here (sunny and not too cold), take the opportunity to go for walks, soak up the sunshine yadda yadda yadda.

Well, I prefer going to the movies. And lately, I've been going to see Avatar. Did I tell you how much I love this movie? No? Well, I love this movie. Sure, maybe the story (and some of the characters) could've been a bit...
