Hello! I’m a children's author, an aspiring naturalist, and a science illustrator with a passion for exploring nature through picture books.

I've been writing stories since middle school, but I swapped to writing for kids when my oldest was a toddler. That's when I ran out of time to read fantasy novels and started reading hundreds and thousands of picture books instead. Eventually, my oldest asked me a question about eggs, and I decided to answer it with a picture book.

As an artist and an author, I love sharing science and nature through picture books.

You can find FREE kids' activities on my website, aesauble.com.

Since he had also helped collect eggs at his grandmother’s, we started talking about who had laid the eggs we were using...and who else lays eggs.

10+ picture books about owls to make reading a hoot!

I’ve been leading preschool story times at a local nature center for couple of years now.

This month, I’m getting ready for the spring session to start, so I’m pulling out my favorite picture books again. I’ll be reading up on owls, slugs, flowers, and all the other fun themes for the next few months.

Our first story time will be focused on owls. So, I wanted to share some of my favorite picture bo

It’s an interesting book, but mostly side notes and factoids rather than anything as broad as the title promises. Plus, in an era of TIL posts and internet trivia, I suspect most people with any interest in science would be aware of most of the facts ...more

Fairly basic, but a good introduction to sketching poses and expressions, as well as laying out a cartoon panel, adding speech bubbles and general tricks of the trade.

This was an interesting read, partly for humor and partly for storytelling in general. A lot of the advice focuses on pairing opposites or finding oxymorons and building on that foundation to create irony.

I’ve been thinking about what it would take to write poetry again, and this is definitely the book to kickstart that. It’s inspiring in a quiet, every-day kind of way, as well as a lovely set of reflections on nature and art.

I initially picked this book up because the title was catchy.

The basic theme is (loosely) that if humans could spend more time in a flow state and less time overthinking life, then we’d be happier. That’s a reasonable claim, but the book gets into s
