I'm back!
Apologies, have been away for several years while researching and writing my latest, Spying on the South, which comes out in a few weeks. Like most of my other books it's a mix of history, journalism, and travel adventure. In this case parallel journeys. Frederick Law Olmsted's in the 1850s, across the South, as an undercover correspondent for the New York Times (which led him to Central Park and landscape architecture). And my own journey on his path, from the Potomac to the Rio Grande, at another time of national division. With plenty of travel antics thrown in!

BOOM re-released by Amazon
Oops, sent message a moment ago as my son Nathaniel, not realizing he'd signed in on my laptop. Kids....
Anyway, just to repeat, BOOM is no longer a Byliner title and now available directly through Amazon, with updated text and 17 photographs I took during the journey. You can check it out at
http://www.amazon.com/BOOM-Strippers-...
Also got a nice rave review in SF Chronicle, which called it "a model of dauntless reporting."

the real Midnight Rising
A reader ordering Midnight Rising, my book on John Brown, reports she was sent another of same title that sounds like more fun.
It's a steamy vampire romance with the following blurb: "In a world of shadows and dark, consuming hungers, desire is the deadliest weapon..."
John Brown isn't just moldering in his grave, he's rolling over in it.

Tony Horwitz discovers Goodreads!
Well I'm an idiot. Somehow I'd never got round to setting up an author page at Goodreads and now that I have, I discover there are 219 fans lurking! Whomever you are, very glad to know you exist. The last time I went looking online for readers, it was because I'd heard there was a Facebook page devoted to hating Confederates in the Attic. So this is an improvement.
Now that I'm here, fans, can I pump my newest work? It's a short ebook about my oily adventure traveling through the tar sands of Alberta and along the route of the Keystone XL pipeline. A Kerouac-ian road trip with some serious reporting mixed in.
It's called BOOM: Oil, Money, Cowboys, Strippers, and the Energy Rush That Could Change America Forever.
I'm still in recovery from that trip but hope to embark on another writing adventure before long.
