Erin L Jungdahl (yeah, you read that right “Young-dahl”) wrote a story about cats and dogs the moment she figured out how to write. She went on to write about princesses, mermaids, robots, and spies. Erin lives in San Antonio with her husband and three cats. She is back to writing about cats and dogs and loving every minute of it.

Like if you want to write the next great American novel but you don't know how, it's easy to become paralyzed with fear. Accept that you're not going to get it right on the first try.

Write the crummy first draft and then walk away from it for a while. Come back when you've had a chance to get some perspective and edit until you can't stand to look at it any more. It's never going to be totally perfect so don't hold out until it is. Get other people's perspective and make the changes you think are appropriate. When you have at least a competent book, put it out into the world and move on to the next project.
