Luís Telles do Amaral nasceu no Porto, mas depressa percebeu que o mundo era demasiado grande para se ficar por um só lugar. Microbiologista e epidemiologista, licenciou-se pela Universidade Católica do Porto, fez Erasmus na Irlanda e concluiu o mestrado no Imperial College London, onde hoje é investigador visitante em modelação de doenças infecciosas. É doutorando em Ciências Médicas na Universidade de Antuérpia, na Bélgica, e já publicou artigos internacionais sobre medicina tropical, incluindo trabalho de campo em África para investigar a enigmática ligação entre a cegueira-do-rio e surtos de epilepsia.
