I "read" an audio book every 2 weeks or so while I'm commuting, and I try to alternate educational and fiction; what title I actually read depends on what's in the local library at the time. I read the Amazon Prime monthly selection, and any Kindle books I acquire randomly through various business offers or of course if I agree to do a book review. Finally, we pass books around in our family so it depends what they picked up to read, too!(less)

Outline and expand. Write a bullet for each topic that goes in a chapter. Write a topic sentence for some of the bullets. Write a couple of bullets pertaining to the topic. Turn the bullets into paragraphs. Somewhere on your list you'll find a paragraph or two that you can say something about.

If you can keep expanding the outline, you'l keep making progress. Whatever you do, don't start editing. Fine-tuning is the perpetual excuse for not making progress.(less)

Fast-paced police procedural

A real page-turner. The lead character is a private eye who is (of course, isn't everyone nowadays) a former SEAL but other than having some competent buddies to call on, that's not key to the story. Otherwise, he and a ba

Fine read mixing drone wars and police procedural

This book deserved its Amazon launch boost. The description page talks about a major conspiracy and I was primed for yet another sample of the Feds being all bad guys. Fortunately that was not the case

Fitting finale for a fine series

The final volume of this series didn't disappoint. Our hero is an advisor to ARVN units, supposed to be a passive role but manages to save the day with the usual heroics. It's also a good review of one of the final ca

More challenges and weapons to play with

Another fun read for those who were in combat arms units in the 1960s and 1970s. If you never served, then this series could be a useful insight into what Vietnam vets lived through. Of course our hero goes thr

Interesting summary of the post-Tet battle

Another increment of artillery and infantry cooperation. Naturally being a novel, the hero performs some bigger-than-life heroics but the general idea is solid. This episode is more of a personal effort than
