A couple of things got me started.
First, it was April/2020 and I was locked down with the rest of the world and looking for activities to free my mind while I was stuck at home. I began researching a little newspaper story that came out years earlier about a tree being dedicated to the memory of a WWI soldier. Because my own grandfather was a WWI veteran, I've always had a cosmic connection to that era and have wondered what life was like for people during that time. I first intended this to be a short story for a CBC contest, but the more I uncovered and the more information I accrued, I realized it was far too complex for a short story. Shortlisted!

Like last year, another of my short stories made it to the shortlist (the final top 10), but was not selected as the winner or runner up. My story "I BELIEVE" is about a psychic medium who has some issues with truthtelling and a few skeletons in her closet that she's hiding. I highly recommend that you try the 2027 GritLit short story contest. It's a real blast. I'll be there again in 2027. Happy Read more of this blog post »

"Re-read review, 2026- rating bumped down to 3 stars

I don't know how 2020 me gave this book 4-stars... I'll say Covid brain? Because, gah! The lack of communication here is literally insane.
