While Anthony Cleveland's southern ancestral roots run deep into the American colonial past of the British Empire, his childhood and adolescent years were spent in Michigan. His family, like thousands of other southerners following the end of WWII, relocated to the industrial Midwest seeking improved economic opportunities.
Anthony graduated from Bedford Senior high school and enrolled at Adrian College where he studied Chemistry. Between his sophomore and junior years, he married Cheryl, his high school sweetheart and transferred to the University of Toledo where he completed his undergraduate education with a B.S. in Chemistry and minor in Mathematics.

Anthony spent the next 25 years of his life working in the private sector holding positions in R&D, operations, sales and marketing. His work, at times, required extensive travel, both domestic and international. It was during this phase of his life he cultivated an interest in American and British history. Wherever and whenever he travelled, a history book was constantly in his possession.
A new phase of Anthony's life began when he enrolled at the Michigan Theological Seminary (now Moody Theological Seminary - Michigan). He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Counseling Psychology. While working as a clinician, he discovered his passion for teaching. He began his career in academia at Jackson College in Jackson, Michigan where he is currently an Associate professor of Psychology and a tenured member of the faculty. In 2012, he received the "Outstanding Faculty of the Year Award" from the institution.
Anthony and his wife of 41 years have two daughters and two grandchildren.
Roots of Faith is Anthony's first novel written in the genre of Christian historical fiction. In his words, "my faith has been a significant part of my life for as long as I can remember. Writing this book was indeed a labor of love. It combines three topics that are near and dear to my heart; family, faith and history. I really wrote the book for my grandchildren in the hope that someday they would read it and reflect upon the sacrifices their ancestors have made in order for them to worship God in freedom and peace. As I continued to work on the book, I came to the realization that it might serve as a way to help all Americans, regardless their country of origin, learn of and appreciate the historical development and critical significance of the concept of religious freedom in the United States. Perhaps a lesson we Americans should remind ourselves of from time to time? Of course this book is about faith in God that may bend at times but never breaks. To paraphrase the Apostle Paul; faith, hope and love are all that really matters. I do hope you enjoy my work. I sincerely hope that it causes you to stop for a moment and reflect upon your own ancestors and the contribution they have made to this great country and to the growth and development of the Christian faith.
