The words left my mouth before I could stop them, because a murderous glint in the blue irises told me it was not the time to fuck around.
“But that’s not quite true,” he said, taking a predatory step towards me. “Is it, Minerva?”
His voice was too low. Too calm.
“I met him by accident.”
“But you didn’t have three drinks with him by accident, did you?”
My fists clenched because he was so out of line it made my head spin. So, he had me followed yet again.
“You will tell Mr. Ganz to stop following me this instant!” I exclaimed, stepping towards him. “Why don’t you have him stalking your assistant or something?”
“I don’t want Yvette. I want you.”
My heart somersaulted in my chest. He never said it so openly before. And he sounded so cool, as if he’d just asked me what I wanted for breakfast.
“Well, tough,” I said, doing my best to appear indifferent.
I had to get out of here. The walls were closing in on me, and I had to leave if I wanted to survive.
I was about to walk past him when he stood in my way, all huge and tall, looking at me as if I was a worm next to his shoe. His mere stance intimidated me, not just because he looked like the devil himself in black slacks and a black button-down shirt, but also because I knew I wouldn’t be able to leave if he didn’t let me.
“You made a big mistake tonight,” he said coldly. “You just don’t know it yet.”
Arrogant piece of shit.
“I’m not having this conversation.”
I headed to the parlor, only to hear the door slamming shut when he followed me inside.
Shit.
“Do you want to fuck him?”
I kept moving. The parlor had another door that led to the library. He might have been bigger, but I was bound to be quicker.
“You’re out of your mind,” I said, when he grabbed my arm and spun me around.
“If a cheap drink is all it takes, I wouldn’t have offered millions,” he said through his teeth.
I raised my hand and slapped him across the cheek, so hard I felt my palm burning. The slap echoed around the room, pointing out just how big a mistake I had made.

“I know who it is,” I said through my teeth, marching towards Beelzebub and trying to control myself. The insolence of the man! I wasn’t a puppy to run to him whenever he deigned to summon me. I didn’t have to obey him. In fact, I planned to contradict every word that would come out of that perfect mouth.
As I walked up to him, he leaned against his car, looking obnoxiously sexy in a button-down blue shirt and jeans.
“Can’t you find it in yourself to be more polite when you talk to peop—“
“I’ll be blunt,” he said coolly, pushing his designer sunglasses up his arrogant nose. “If that man over there lays so much as a finger on you one more time, I will personally fire him and the rest of the crew.”
I gasped in shock, barely recovering enough to reply. “You can’t fire him or anyone else! They’re my team. I hired them. You have no say in it.”
He folded his arms across his chest, looking unfazed.
“I can do whatever I want. It’s my house.”
I blinked a few times as if it would help me understand the lunatic standing in front of me.
“But why?”
He merely shrugged. “My house. My rules.”
“Well, your rules suck!” I hissed, clenching my fists. “And none of this would have happened if you’d returned my eyeglasses, which you refuse to do because you’re a sadist.”
I turned to leave, only to stop in my tracks.
“And you know what else?” I said in a low voice, pointing a finger at him. “I don’t know what kind of game you’re playing or if you’re getting back at me for… for…”
He cocked his eyebrows, and I felt myself blush.

“What do you mean? I don’t know… because I don’t… because I can’t describe her! Who cares what she looks like?”
I swallowed another imaginary bug.
“Oh, please! She’s annoying, ugly, and mean. Does that answer your question? I have never fucked ugly in my life and I'm not about to start now.”

I didn’t mean to eavesdrop. In my defense, she was speaking loud enough for me to hear her while I stood in front of her room like an idiot. But the things she’d said about me... I mean, come on!
Rude? I could live with that. I didn’t like it, but I could live with it.
Bossy? It was kinda true. I liked obedience. That stuff turned me on.
Obnoxious? That one kinda stung.
But average-looking?
