I surf the web and hate myself until I remember that I just need to get back to work. I usually won't work on whatever I'm blocked on, but something else. At any given time I have multiple pieces in multiple stages.

I had a really rough spell earlier this year where I actually didn't write at all for a couple weeks. When it gets that bad, I switch mediums and paint or sketch for a while.(less)

No, the best thing about being a writer is that you always have something to think about. Standing in line at the pharmacy? Think about your book. Cooking dinner and can't bear to listen to the news? Go over your characters' motivations. Having trouble sleeping? Maybe the kinks out of that love scene... Each book is a puzzle that wants to come together. Figuring out how to get it to work without forcing or missing the pieces... that's the good stuff.(less)

T.M. Frazier
“Hey Doc?” he asked, searching my eyes. His laugh quieted and his smile fell.
My stomach flipped. “Yeah?”
“This time…I’m gonna keep you.”
T.M. Frazier, Preppy: The Life & Death of Samuel Clearwater, Part Two

Mariana Zapata
“He was aloe vera, rough and prickly on the outside, but the inside held all the gooey goodness.”
Mariana Zapata, Under Locke

Mariana Zapata
“Real love was gritty. The real kind of love never quit. Someone who loved you would do what’s best for you; they’d stand up for you and sacrifice. Someone who loved you would face any inconvenience willingly.”
Mariana Zapata, Wait for It

Bijou Hunter
“I don’t want kids.”
“Why?”
“My family has a genetic defect and I don’t want to pass it on.”
“What kind of defect?”
“We’re assholes.”
Bijou Hunter, Damaged and the Knight

L.J. Shen
“Some people collect stamps. Some coins. Taxidermy. Fucking cards. I collect regrets. They don’t take up much space, not physically, anyway. But inside. . .they occupy. They eat away. They ruin.
Because that’s the thing about regrets. They’re mistakes that left scars. Vicious, sensitive, searing wounds.”
L.J. Shen, Blood to Dust
