“So Annelise, that is the question of the night. What is your fantasy?" Peering carefully into her face, Rick took her hand and led her into his bedroom.”
Barbara James, Starting Over: Rick

“Feeling flirtatious, she found an apron and gave it to him, "Can you help me?"
Hiding a secret smile, he thought, "Baby girl, you have no idea what you have just unleashed.”

“From my recent blog tour interview:

I recently spent time updating my Goodreads page to include the names of authors whose works inspire me, and as I thought about it, the characters in the books I liked all share certain traits in common.

The heroes of the novels were highly competent men in the world of work. They had great families and friends. They were experienced with women. Everything was great, but something was missing. They were adrift in that their relationships with women didn't fulfill them emotionally. It was something they were actually aware of, or something acted as a catalyst that brought them face to face with their reality. I especially liked when the heroes were introspective enough to realize that they needed to do something about their lives.”

“From my Book Talk Radio Interview:

Barbara’s debut novel Starting Over is described as a sweet and sensuous, closed door romance.

Q. Firstly I have to ask, what is a closed door romance?

Closed door romances recognize that sex occurs, but they are not concerned with what occurs. That's up to the reader's imagination. Since I like sweet romances, I emphasize the building of relationships. What do the characters bring of themselves? What are their histories, their vulnerabilities, hopes, and fears? They are building intimacy. It is about the foundation for something long term.”

Barbara James A friend, in response to my worry about whether I should be concerned about writing right away: "You have the time, the skill and the tools to blow us away."
