As an explorer, entrepreneur, humanitarian, and author, Anne Mason’s life reads like an extraordinary adventure book. Her journey began as a young girl traveling and studying throughout Europe, especially England, where she developed her love of teddy bears. In the following years, she took to exploring new heights, literally, as she scaled the frigid ascent to Mt. Everest’s Base Camp (17,600 ft). From there she appeared as a principal actor in the 2009 adventure documentary film, Journey to Everest, wherein the American team narrowly escaped an icy fate after they were bumped from a flight at Lukla airport that would later crash in the mountains.

While this is quite admirable, I would advise aspiring writers to develop at least one or two short stories prior to this difficult task. These narratives can provide a foundation from which to define and develop your writing style. Another key element is to practice, practice and practice - write everyday.

A successful writer requires a great deal of determination. "Without effort, your talent is nothing more than your unmet potential," Angela Duckworth writes in her book, "Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance." (less)

The key is to keep engaging your innate ability to create something wonderful and inspiring to others.

In addition, I find it helpful to enjoy a relaxing walk by the ocean, write early in the morning, and eliminate all distractions for at least 3 or 4 hours. (less)
