Steve Pillinger is a linguist, Bible translator and typesetter who has worked in a number of different cross-cultural settings in Africa, the UK and the USA. He loves language, history and maps, which comes through in his books; and he's always delighted to see God’s truth revealed with fresh impact through the eyes of a different culture.
The Mindrulers series is set in the richly-imagined world he created as part of a family role-playing game, while living in Oxfordshire, UK. Now he and his wife have moved to Johannesburg, South Africa, where they continue to support the work of Bible translation. They have two adult children, a son and a daughter.
Steve’s other interests include reading, piano playing and photography.

Hi Sean,
Ouch! Difficult question, for two reasons: First, as I explain in my own review of the book, it arose out of a family role-playing game—so each of the major characters was played by a member of our family. Although I say in the book that the characters don't represent real people (and it's true that they've taken on a personality of their own during the writing), that identity still lingers (at least in our family). So if I now start picking favourites…
Secondly, I've tried all along to make this a story with four equal protagonists, not one. If I pick a favourite it could be understood as designating him/her as the 'main character', which I would not want to do.
But in any case, I think I can honestly say that all four of the central characters—and several of the minor ones—are my favourites in different ways. They took on a life of their own as I wrote, and I like the way they turned out! With the exception of Gil, of course—he still has a way to go.
Thanks for the question. Can I ask in return: I saw in your review that Danisha was your favourite. But did you feel there was one main character? Or did my plan of making all four equal work?

About the next book, The Restorers, I hope to have that ready by the end of July, though it may be a bit later. Hope you enjoy that as well!(less)
