Sometimes, all it takes is one person who loves your unique voice and your story. Don't give up until you find that person. Also, focus on improving your craft. Writing is like tennis- you're not going to the Grand Slam unless you are willing to work like crazy and get to that level of the game. (less)

“frightening and painful memories hurt much less when we bring them into the light and give them a little bit of our attention, but not too much. Acknowledge them and accept that they cannot be changed, then let them go.”
Alex Dahl, The Boy at the Door

“I am not what happened to me, but what I choose to become”
Alex Dahl, Cabin Fever

“Looking at my sleeping husband, I feel a sliver of fear run through me for how little we actually know of another person, how little we can ever know of what goes on inside their head. Life, and love, are like therapy sessions at the end of the day - we only know what someone says and shows.  But what about the things they choose to hide, and go to great lengths to keep hidden?”
Alex Dahl, Cabin Fever

“When I was with Yoav, everything in me that had been sitting stood up. He had a way of looking at me with a kind of unabashed directness that made me shiver. It's something amazing to feel that for the first time someone is seeing you as you really are, not as they wish you, or you wish yourself, to be.”
Nicole Krauss, Great House

“They say nothing lasts forever but they're just scared it will last longer than they can love it.”
Ocean Vuong, On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous
