Brent Williams was born in Wellington, New Zealand, in 1958. He studied law at Victoria University and then built his career in the community law field, creating services and resources to help vulnerable people - particularly children, young people, and victims of family violence.
In his resource work Brent used comics, re-enactments, and documentaries to tell stories of people asserting their legal rights. However, in his late forties he found he could no longer do this work. It was like he had hit an insurmountable wall. That wall was depression.
