I just start writing and rely on synchronicity, intuition, and good music to silence my inner critic (the usual suspect for my writer's block). From there, the magic starts flowing. I also write regularly--five to six days a week--because the more I touch my words the less prone to writer's block I am. Taking too much time away from the writing desk is what makes me anxious. The magic of a Monday, the quiet bliss of an afternoon cup of tea, the illicit joy of reading late into the night…these are the simple pleasures that make life wonderful. It’s easy to overlook them, get swept up in our to-do lists, but when we pause and take in the beauty around us, we remember to be more than that to-do list. We glean wisdom in the whispering trees and the synchronous happenings that punctuate our day. We remember to dream. And that kind of ordinary joy is pure magic.(less)

The Sacred Necessity of Hope

Every May, when Beltane rolls around, I want to stop and smell the lilacs, wear flowers and ribbons in my hair, and bask in the heady softness of spring. I feel brand new again—like a young girl eager to meet the world.

There is something about this season that softens me. The air is fragrant with the smell of growing things. The trees dance, their leaves impossible shades of green. My garden begin

Quotes by Maria DeBlassie  (?)

“Despite what we’re taught in the self-help community, wellness and mystic joy aren’t something you gain and then just have. You have to continue to work on it daily, like exercise or diet.”
Maria DeBlassie, Practically Pagan - An Alternative Guide to Magical Living

“She was the Weeping Woman, sure. But I was the woman who made rainwater out of tears. I would use them to water my crops through this drought. When people bought my fat turnips and sharp radishes and long, thick carrots, they would taste of freshly turned futures, hope, the bittersweet taste of things past, and the salty tang of possibility. This I would do to remind others that we are the seeds we plant, not the histories forced upon us. This I would do to wash away the sorrow from my soul.”
Maria DeBlassie, Weep, Woman, Weep

“I'll let you in on a little secret: This book is magic. All books are. So much so that they are picky about who picks them up and reads them.”
Maria DeBlassie, Practically Pagan - An Alternative Guide to Magical Living
