It all depends on the book you NEED in that moment in your life!

Inflorescence is my journey to finding my voice as a writer, that comes along with the growing pains

night-bloomer is raw, unfettered emotions

Daydreamer, in all essence, is clarity. Finding clarity was a journey.

In my darkest times, i used to draw flowers all over my bedroom walls with chalk. i was almost obsessed with filling my room with flowers at a certain point. I would also write poetry on the walls and they always were about a flower had once been strong and lovely but was not reduced to nothing because of others. it was poetry that encouraged me to get help and it was poetry that made me realize that i deserved better.

night-bloomer plays along with one of the themes in inflorescence–that i am not like others, that i "bloom"/shine when no one else is around or expects it. i decided with night-bloomer, to have a more serious tone. i wanted to be very direct to "night-bloomers" because i feel like we get overlooked because of societal expectations.

as a society, we praise those who pretend to be something they are not and those you try to be perfect. I say "f" that!

i want people who embrace their "flaws" to shine. i want those who are dreamers, wanderers, introverts, the artsy types, to not feel afraid to step forward into the light. i want the people who i mentioned earlier, who strive for perfection, to love themselves first and tell society to suck it!(less)

“peace was never
at the forefront of my mind.
a war waged inside of me,
but i began to take
joy in the slaughter
and bloodshed.

—confession ii”
Mecca-Amirah Jackson, inflorescence

“love should taste like
cotton candy−pink
and sickeningly sweet. sticky
on your teeth, a hunger
that grows with each bite,
it should make you feel
full yet also so light. but
when love tastes sour,
does that mean i did not
eat it right?”
Mecca-Amirah Jackson, night-bloomer

“i collapsed like a skyscraper:
once upon a time, i lived in an enclave of
stars. i wore a coat of clouds,
and the sun kissed me before
the moon cradled me in its gaze.
but now... now i lie in a pile
of my own remains.”
Mecca-Amirah Jackson, night-bloomer

“a cracked yolk split between her thighs.
she rushed to clean up her shame.
yellow stained her hands;
yellow stained her child,
who was born in a world designed to hate.

—the early nineties
 ”
Mecca-Amirah Jackson, inflorescence

“my mouth was shut
for so long that my teeth decayed.
you complained
that my lips were always
dry and chapped;
you kissed me anyway,
even when they cracked and bled.

—you kissed me anyway
