One of my favorite books of the past few years was Courting Mr. Lincoln by Louis Bayard. I can't shout about this book enough - Bayard's characters are masterfully nuanced, and the relationships between them delicately drawn. I actually just re-read it recently, and it was just as good as I remembered!(less)

“I was forever waiting, without knowing quite what it was I was waiting for.”
Molly Greeley, The Heiress: The Revelations of Anne de Bourgh

“He was speechless with gratitude when I told him I intended to stay as long as necessary.”
Molly Greeley, The Heiress: The Revelations of Anne de Bourgh

“Though the garden is still blooming, the blossoms are growing blowsy and losing petals; the sun, rising swiftly now, is still bright, but there is a particular smell to the air, sharp as autumn, like damp leaves underfoot even though they have yet to turn and fall. The world is in transition, and I stand inert as it changes around me.”
Molly Greeley, The Clergyman's Wife
