Dead of Summer falls in the familiar camp we're ready for with a La Sala book. It's Queer horror, that while it is "technically YA" that mostly means it centers teens, grownups with some weird vindication against sai" Read more of this review »

Hi Emme, & thanks for the question.

This one's been coming up a lot lately. The short answer is "probably." I'd like to, but it's not a sure thing.

I'll be a little bit vague here to avoid spoilers, but there are reasons why it might be tricky to find See Scott’s answer.

Five stars.

Writers often say every book costs you something. At minimum, a bit of time and some ink stained fingers. At most...I'm not sure what the most of a book can take from you is, but whatever it is, The Honeys came close to taking it from me.

“If you look at most female archetypes—the mother, the virgin, the whore—their power comes from their relation to men. But not the Witch. The Witch derives her power from nature. She calls forth her dreams with spells and incantations. With poetry. And I think that’s why we are frightened of them. What’s scarier to the world of men than a woman limited only by her imagination?”
Ryan La Sala, Reverie

“It is up to you to demand people see you as you, or they will almost always decide you are someone else.”
Ryan La Sala, The Honeys

“I realize this fits into the way I've always seen myself, which is: art, attempted, though often spoiled by the demands of another's taste.”
Ryan La Sala, The Honeys

Onyx You mentioned in your review that you're fed up with sub-par queer fiction, as was I before the Captive Prince... but rest assured there's plenty of great authors and books out there, in every genre from contemporary fairy tales to dystopian mindfucks.

So, what kind of books do you like to read? Maybe I can recommend something! :)
