I’d like to think I’ve carried on that legacy in raising my daughter.

My life has been a bit of a meandering journey. Though I studied acting and music in college, I eventually came to understand that my devout passion for the art and craft of writing superseded those fine arts (though I continue to love them both today). I not only enjoy writing myself but empowering others in finding their voice.

My moment of validation as a writer came when I was chosen as one of four win

You have to disentangle your own thoughts and insecurities from the work. You must continue to attempt to work through the block, even if you only get a few words down. If you're unable to write, understand that the reason why very likely has nothing to do with the writing itself. Figure out what that is, start the process of dealing with it, and take another swing at the work.(less)

I listened to the audio version, which featured a multi-reader cast, all of whom were quite excellent. The novel is sincere and poignant in its emotional complexity and relationships, and is obviously very well-researched in terms of the unique setti ...more

Shelby Foote
“A university is just a group of buildings gathered around a library.”
Shelby Foote

Ray Bradbury
“I don't believe in colleges and universities. I believe in libraries because most students don't have any money. When I graduated from high school, it was during the Depression and we had no money. I couldn't go to college, so I went to the library three days a week for 10 years.”
Ray Bradbury

Isaac Asimov
“Congratulations on the new library, because it isn't just a library. It is a space ship that will take you to the farthest reaches of the Universe, a time machine that will take you to the far past and the far future, a teacher that knows more than any human being, a friend that will amuse you and console you -- and most of all, a gateway, to a better and happier and more useful life.

[Letters of Note; Troy (MI, USA) Public Library, 1971]”
Isaac Asimov

Ashleigh Brilliant
“The closest you will ever come in this life to an orderly universe is a good library.”
Ashleigh Brilliant

Neil Gaiman
“Libraries are about Freedom. Freedom to read, freedom of ideas, freedom of communication. They are about education (which is not a process that finishes the day we leave school or university), about entertainment, about making safe spaces, and about access to information.”
Neil Gaiman, The View from the Cheap Seats: Selected Nonfiction
