HAPPY RELEASE DAY!

I can't believe I'm sitting here typing this but my debut poetry collection Water Runs Red is out now!! WHAT! (Also it's my mom's birthday so happy birthday Mom!!!)

It's been such a wild ride getting to this day that I haven't really fully processed everything yet. I thought I was spending the past few weeks mentally prepping for my book to be out in the world, but it all just feels like a dream. H Read more of this blog post »

i've read this three times now, and i am really so shocked that this book doesn't reel in more people than it does. i know plenty of intelligent, fantasy-loving readers who see hate to see ninth house coming and why! because it's "confusing?" i'll ad ...more

truthfully a lot of my beef with this book is with the audiobook - it's poorly structured for audio and while i appreciated the energy of the author (for 27 hours), i found that she was struggling with some pronunciation and the audio mixing/editing ...more

this reads like a mash-up between khaled hosseini and joyland (2022). there’s nuance, obviously, as joyland is palestinian and this book is much more queer than hosseini’s works, but the feelings evoked in these works all feel connected.

“absolute nothingness
is preferable
to the kind of something
(or someone)
that makes you feel
alone”
Jenna Clare, Water Runs Red

“The darkness belongs to you. To shape as you will. To give it power or render it harmless.”
Sarah J. Maas, Tower of Dawn

“Stop punishing yourself for being someone with a heart. You cannot protect yourself from suffering. To live is to grieve. You are not protecting yourself by shutting yourself off from the world. You are limiting yourself.”
Leigh Bardugo, King of Scars

“We’re here to wander through other people’s stories, searching for our own.”
Erin Morgenstern, The Starless Sea

“You have risen from the ashes before. The only way to survive, " he said, "is to believe you always will.”
Samantha Shannon, The Song Rising

“You won’t understand what I mean now, but someday you will: the only trick of friendship, I think, is to find people who are better than you are—not smarter, not cooler, but kinder, and more generous, and more forgiving—and then to appreciate them for what they can teach you, and to try to listen to them when they tell you something about yourself, no matter how bad—or good—it might be, and to trust them, which is the hardest thing of all. But the best, as well.”
Hanya Yanagihara, A Little Life
