Mandy Tremelling can remember writing stories since she was in the third grade. She vaguely remembers a story about a secret unicorn. Once she got to middle school she entered a Writer’s Ink club that met every Wednesday. They learned different writing techniques and met lots of writers who helped shape her goals to publish. This club also introduced her to the NaNoWriMo program. During the NaNoWriMo (national novel writing month) program, Mandy has written several books under the name Mandy_Rose. She self published (or Indie published) her first two novellas (NaNoWriMo books written in middle school) under the name Rose Winters while in high school. During her junior year in high school she received the inspiration for My World of Glass af ...more

I Quit!

I hear this declaration from so many of my writing friends. Guys, if you didn’t know, writing books is hard. It’s so hard to make sure you have the perfect characters who aren’t too perfect. It’s so hard coming up with a story line that hasn’t been used before. (Spoiler Alert: that’s not possible.) It’s hard to come up with little obstacles that keep the hero on their toes.

And that’s just the writ Read more of this blog post »

I almost DNFed this book. I didn’t like the “journal” way it was written. The only thing that kept me going was “they made this a movie, so it must get good somewhere”. I didn’t get to a point where I could not stop listening. I needed to know how th ...more

“I feared I might lose my faith. If you’ve never had a faith, you will not understand what that means. You feel as if your best friend is dying, that everything that defined you is being burned away; that you’ll be left all alone.”
― Margaret Atwood, The Testaments

Sigrid Undset
“But it looked as if Brother Edvin had become so wrinkled simply from smiling at people. Kristin thought she had never seen anyone who looked so cheerful or so kind. He seemed to carry within him a luminous and secret joy, and she was able to share it whenever he spoke.”
― Sigrid Undset, Kristin Lavransdatter

Sigrid Undset
“Dragons and all other creatures that serve the Devil only seem big as long as we harbor fear within ourselves. But if a person seeks God with such earnestness and desire that he enters into His power, then the power of the Devil at once suffers such a great defeat that his instruments become small and impotent. Dragons and evil spirits shrink until they are no bigger than goblins and cats and crows.”
― Sigrid Undset, Kristin Lavransdatter
