Jonathan is passionate about helping people live in abundant freedom and self-sacrificial love. A writer and popular podcast host, Jonathan and his wife also pastor children at a thriving community church in Kitchener, Ontario. Having spent much of his career in non-profit leadership, Jonathan is a visionary thinker with a strategic mind, who is just as comfortable speaking to large audiences as he is mentoring one-on-one. Raised by missionary parents, living in five countries and being exposed to a broad range of faith traditions, Jonathan teaches from a rich and inclusive Christian framework. A father of three, Jonathan loves dance music, science fiction, good food, dark beer, and long walks on the beach. He was born in New Zealand, so he ...more

How to get started with the Enneagram

In the last 10 years, the Enneagram has become an extremely popular tool for understanding your personality and your hidden motivations, especially in Christian circles. Today you can find everything from mugs and t-shirts with silly Enneagram quips on them, to deeply esoteric books on the subject. The Enneagram has been powerfully transformative in my own life:

it has helped me fall more in love

Death's End by Liu Cixin

All the books in this series have been fantastic. Death's End might be the easiest to approach, given the shift in writing style and less of a cultural lens. At the same time, it might be the most difficult to handle emotionally.

Truly brilliant work.

More of Jonathan's books…
James MacDonald
“To disrespect a person made in the image and likeness of God is a lot worse than desecrating a flag. We should be offended and repulsed in the same way when God's image bearers are desecrated – abused, beaten, neglected, discriminated against, and not loved and taken care of as they should be.”
James MacDonald, Christ-Centered Biblical Counseling: Changing Lives with God's Changeless Truth

Brené Brown
“Daring to set boundaries is about having the courage to love ourselves, even when we risk disappointing others.”
Brené Brown

Rob Bell
“Our tendency in the midst of suffering is to turn on God. To get angry and bitter and shake our fist at the sky and say, "God, you don't know what it's like! You don't understand! You have no idea what I'm going through. You don't have a clue how much this hurts."

The cross is God's way of taking away all of our accusations, excuses, and arguments.

The cross is God taking on flesh and blood and saying, "Me too.”
Rob Bell

Elizabeth Barrett Browning
“Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God,
But only he who sees takes off his shoes;
The rest sit round and pluck blackberries.”
Elizabeth Barrett Browning

G.K. Chesterton
“And the more I considered Christianity, the more I found that while it had established a rule and order, the chief aim of of that order was to give room for good things to run wild.”
G.K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy
