It is book three in the Peachland Passions series (first book comes out July 1, 2021). The book title is Smoking Hot Summer. It is Nina and Colton's story. They were inseparable as children, and as teens were high school sweethearts. That changed when Nina discovered she was pregnant -- and Colton bolted. We hate him and don't trust him, but we also get it because he was 18 and just not ready to be a dad. Plus, he has regretted that decision every day since. Now, he's back in town. He's a firefighter -- and he's not a scared boy any longer. Which doesn't mean the path to true love is going to be smooth for either of them. Still, pretty sure the guy's gonna get the girl (s) in the end!(less)

Other than that, there are mostly scenarios rather than mysteries from my life which could inspire a plot. My grandmother was one of the first war brides to come to Canada, for example. (less)

Writing a Series

Today on Facebook I was sent a reminder that two years ago I launched book one of the Lakeland Series. Now, one of my more exciting accomplishments of 2021 is launching the EBook version of the box set.

The Lakeland Series is a four-book series, and there are so many things I learned about writing over the course of writing these books. For one thing, book one, The Heart of Things, was one of the Read more of this blog post »

“He’s a cop,” Amy said flatly. She refused to acknowledge the way his quick, amused smile made her head buzz. “And you don’t look like a Zander.”
He smiled again. “No? I wasn’t aware there was a Zander look,” he said, clearly amused. “What would that look be, exactly?”
“Backwoods hillbilly cousin-kissing redneck.”
“Ttt.” Jam made a sound that might have been a laugh caught between her front teeth. It might also have been an admonition for Amy not to insult her friend. “Ignore her, Zander. She just doesn’t like hospitals. They make her cranky.”

“But why are you taking him?”

Monya added a wrapped blueberry pie and three loaves of day-old bread to the box of food items she was packing. Then she looked over at Percy.

“Why do you care?” she asked, squinting slightly as she studied her chef, then pointing. “And you’re burning your toast.”

“Shoot,” Percy said, and dropped the toast from singed fingers. Then he glared at Monya. “I care. We all care. This guy just shows up and waltzes in here from… wherever, and you just start taking up with him, just like that? It’s not like you. I mean, what do you even know about him?”

“I know he kisses like a…”

“Gah,” Percy made a pained noise. “You’re burning my ears.”

“I figured since you outed us to Jam, anyway, the least I could do was put on a dress for you.” Her voice grew shy. “I’m glad you like it.”
“I like it. But just so you know, I’m going to be imagining getting you out of it all night long.”
“That,” Amy smirked, “Was kind of the plan.”
