If it hadn't happened to me, I wouldn't believe it. This one was solved by facebook, a little bit of luck, and sheer determination.

After realizing I hadn't seen my cat all day, I took to Facebook to our local page and posted his picture, asking if anyone had seen him. It was spring and he's nosey so it wouldn't have been the first time he found himself locked up in someone's shed or out building. In fact, he'd done just that the year prior. I only think this because as soon as he came in through the window, days after I realized he was missing, he made a beeline for the water dish and guzzled for a long time. He also voluntarily stayed in for about a week. Which, Peter, just does not do.

After seeing my post, several friends and neighbors reached out to me sharing another post in another local group. A woman posted a photo of my cat, looking like he was literally screaming for help, asking if the cat belonged to anyone. I reached out telling her that the photo looked like Peter. She told me the cat she had was a female, and promptly sent me photos of his belly and between his legs. Yeah, you read that right. She thought the penis of a cat would be visible if he was lying on his back.

Anyway, I call her and she tells me again this isn't my cat, now I can hear him meowing for me over the call. I ask her if I can just come see the cat. She tells me she has to check with her landlord. Then tells me the landlord isn't comfortable with me coming to see if it's my cat. Just throwing this out there, if your landlord isn't comfortable with people stopping in to see if you have their animal, don't pick up animals and bring them back to your home.

As a result I contact my local police department. The unlucky cop who caught my call, told me he couldn't find her information and to have her call the station. So I told her the cops needed to talk to her and she called them. He arranged for us to meet at the police station to see whose cat it was.

Now I want you to picture this okay, it's me, this young woman, her big burly boyfriend (cause I'm scary) and the police officer in the little room where you give statements. I have the cat under one arm as I'm giving everyone a lesson in sexing cats. Where his balls were prior to them being removed and how the penis only comes out when it's needed. And most of all, the lack of a vagina on this particular feline. The cop is looking very closely and nodding his agreement with what I'm saying, like "Yeah, there's no lady parts on this one." Yeah, highlight of my spring that year.

Now she will not give it up that this is my cat, so I turn to the police officer and I tell him he's taking the cat or I am, but she is not leaving with my cat. He fusses and tells me that will make it "A whole thing". So after a moment, I make another suggestion, we take the cat to my vet, just up the road and let them tell her it's a male and my cat, and she agrees. So I carry him out of the police station, without a carrier or anything else, and she follows us to the vet, where the vet techs were kind enough to meet us outside and assure her, he was Peter and my cat.

After which, I promptly had him microchipped. He stayed in for just shy of two weeks before he refused to be cooped up any longer. (less)

"You can go ahead and judge me for reading this, it’s okay really, I’m already judging myself for it. When I first heard of/picked up After and saw that it was originally 1direction fan-fiction I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard in my life. Then " Read more of this review »

“He kissed the top of her head and tears pooled in her eyes. He could be the best thing she'd never have.”
Angela Breen, Grin

“She stood in the hall taking deep breaths and watching her girls sleep.
Her calm was short-lived as anger surged. Who the hell would do that?
Rachel returned to the kitchen to investigate. There was no number displayed on the beeper. She looked for the number but wasn’t familiar enough with the device yet.
Bringing the beeper with her to her bedroom, she looked around. It was full of boxes and a mess, but she had a real bed and her own space. And she’d never been more terrified. She was the only thing between her girls and danger. She glanced at the beeper. Danger may have found a way in.”
