Amy Bellamy spent much of her childhood in a small Kentucky town surrounded by piles of journals. Her love of reading and writing led her to become an educator, so she could share great literature with students. In March 2012, she fulfilled a childhood dream to become a published author with the release of her first book, a memoir full of her childhood memories and favorite family stories. In February 2019, she published her first novel, inspired by her fascination with true crime and her love of Kentucky history.

I always write with the assumption that no one is going to read what I write except for maybe my mom. :) This takes the pressure off and allows me to just WRITE. As with so many things in life, the hardest part is definitely getting started. An author once told me to just write, even if it's crap. 10 pages of crap is better than not starting at all. Everything you write (even the crappy stuff) helps you improve your craft and find your voice.(less)

I was fascinated by the story, especially when I learned a female sheriff had been in charge, and that thousands of reporters and curiosity-seekers had descended on our town to watch the events unfold. Truth really is stranger than fiction, and the more I learned about the actual historical events, the more firmly I believed it had the makings of a great novel. I toyed around with the idea for years and spent hours reading and researching old newspaper accounts about the circumstances involved in the crime, the trial, and the execution before finally taking the plunge to start writing the novel. Wow, the past few months have been a whirlwind! First, my daughter graduated from high school, which meant all of the end-of-senior-year craziness no one warns you about (senior recognition/honors night, final performances, receptions, graduation parties, etc.). Soon after all of that hoopla, she left for a tour of southeast Asia while my husband and I took off for an extended vacation of our own

I love stories with a strong female lead, and this one did not disappoint. Hester was a riot! I found myself giggling multiple times at her antics. Charlotte was also a fabulous character, and I loved seeing her develop courage and confidence through ...more
