I was chilled by an entry in an old black leather family Bible which referred to a nineteenth century female ancestor who 'killed her dauter'. It was an intriguing and tragic entry, and I had so many questions, including the obvious ones: 'Was it true?' and 'Why?' As I learnt more about infanticide as I grew older, I wondered whether socio-economic pressures might have led the mother to kill her (possibly illegitimate) baby daughter out of desperation. Or could a malicious relative have recorded the entry? Who knows?? (less)

I'd read and heard about this from other authors but was unconvinced until I realised some of my characters had more of a part to play than I'd expected when I started each novel.

The most striking example is that I thought my first novel 'After The Funeral' was a standalone. When I found myself wondering about what happened to the characters months after finishing writing it, I realised I had a sequel to write. So 'A Question of Loyalty' was born.(less)

"I wasn't sure how to rate this as I found it a really hard read but I wanted to follow Demon's story and was anxious to find out how this chapter of his life ended. I had read David Copperfield many years ago but didn't enjoy it and couldn't remember" Read more of this review »
