My name is Hunter, and I’m a wordaholic. I’m also about to break the fourth wall…of your mindhole. Because there is a true story behind this…well…story.

It begins with two best friends who grew up together, breaking rules and raising hell as they shaped each other’s personalities into the shameless assholes they are today. Well, at least for one of them, but I’ll get to that in a moment. These two boys—let’s call them Hunter and John—were all but inseparable. As far as motivation, I usually know whenever I wake up if it's going to be a writing day or not. If I don't feel it, I don't force it. But days I DO feel it, oh boy. I think the most words I've written in a day was somewhere around 12-15k (average around 3 a day).(less)

There are plenty of urban fantasy books set in places like Chicago, New York, London, and other cities that already have enormous fictional supernatural histories. I wanted to do something different and build my supernatural world in Texas.

Plus, Houston is perfect for it.

It's enormous, diverse, sprawling, occasionally beautiful, frequently ridiculous, hotter than Satan's taint for a significant portion of the year, and large enough that you could probably hide an entire supernatural society there without anyone noticing.

As the series progresses, however, John's world gets considerably larger. We travel outside Houston, outside Texas, and even outside this world.

But Houston is John's home. No matter how large the mythology and stakes of The Preternatural Chronicles become, that's where his story begins.(less)

In fact, I'd argue that found family becomes one of the most important parts of The Preternatural Chronicles.
