First of all, thank you so much for sharing that you loved it. <3 And for talking about it with your friends. Word of mouth is so helpful to authors, especially for books that fall outside of the mainstream.

I think about this question a lot. I started building this book from a vibe and an emotion and the idea of a family-like gang. The first draft actually had faeries in it! I went through a lot of significant changes to bring it into a more science-fantasy world.

I've always been inspired by stories of survival and found family bonding over shared trauma.

Thank you for reading!(less)

“That's what I hated thinking about the most. Oblivion. Nothing. Forever. As unfathomable as the universe around us stretching endlessly, impossibly big, horrible, terrifying... Being alive scared the shit out of me most of the time, but being dead would be so much worse.”
Maria Ingrande Mora, The Immeasurable Depth of You

“Tinkering had always come easily to Nate, but he'd never done it like this. Severed a thin wire, a warm thread between his heart and another. It hurt far more than being bitten by the jagged edge of a live wire.”

“We are all made of liquid and slippery organs. Life was improbable. Fragile. It was only a matter of time before something ripped us up and ruined us and we died. It didn't take anything for me to kill the shrimp. Soft, terrible.”
Maria Ingrande Mora, The Immeasurable Depth of You
