Dazzle, Fire, and Soul: Jennifer Lopez, Diego Luna & Tonatiuh Bring New Life to “Kiss of the Spider Woman”

Musicals hold a special place in film history. Some have swept us away, while others, which will remain nameless, have fallen flat. Kiss of the Spider Woman is not one you’ll forget. It’s a Technicolor fantasy that lingers long after the credits roll, a story as radiant as it is deeply human.

There are moments when art becomes the only way to breathe. Kiss of the Spider Woman captures that truth: love and storytelling can set us free when the world feels too heavy.

The cast is a fusion of dazzle, fire, and soul. Jennifer Lopez, Diego Luna, and Tonatiuh bring to life love stories that redefine what a Hollywood musical can be: stories of vulnerability, sacrifice, and survival. What makes Kiss of the Spider Woman even more groundbreaking is its all-star Latino lead cast, Lopez, Luna, and Tonatiuh, who redefine the musical with voices that reflect today’s culture.

Visual storytelling takes center stage as Lopez lights up the screen in a kaleidoscope of color. The costumes set the tone, transporting us to a bygone era when icons like Rita Hayworth defined allure, women admired not only for their beauty but also for their grace. Lopez, a multi-hyphenate force, plays Ingrid Luna, a screen diva who is both muse and escape for prisoner Luis Molina. It’s a performance that captivates in every sense, highlighted by her performance of “She’s a Woman,” a number that embodies the film’s mix of elegance and vulnerability.

At a Kiss of the Spider Woman press conference, Lopez shared, “I’ve always wanted to do a musical; this is the stuff that dreams are made of.” She went on to describe the story’s emotional depth: “It is a love story at the core of it.” That balance between fantasy and reality pulses through every frame of the film.

While every performance shines, Tonatiuh’s soulful Molina is, for me, the heart of the story. He delivers a tender, layered portrayal of a man caught in his own web, a dreamer surviving prison through fantasy. His devotion to Lopez’s Ingrid Luna is a love story of its own, but it is his bond with fellow prisoner Valentín (Diego Luna) that provides the film’s most powerful heartbeat.

Valentín is fire, personified, a political revolutionary whose passion is as fierce as his ideals. Yet in Molina’s company, that fire softens into intimacy, trust, and ultimately, love. The relationship unfolds in the shadows of confinement, balancing fantasy with survival: whimsical musical numbers on one side, political imprisonment and forbidden love on the other.

Condon’s vision keeps the emotion rooted in something real. Twelve dance numbers were completed in just twenty days, with Luna and Tonatiuh filming in an actual Uruguayan prison, moments that give the film its heartbeat of authenticity. The cast shared during the press conference that the film is“a story of humanity.” A story that reminds us, as they said, “Of the humanity of these communities, and that love is love.”

In our AW Confidential interview, Tonatiuh reflected on Molina’s journey: “For me, Molina’s storytelling was never just escape; it was survival. Playing him reminded me that vulnerability can be its own kind of strength.”

That’s the power of Kiss of the Spider Woman. It is a cinematic experience, yes, but also a mirror held up to the truths we often avoid: that love appears in unexpected places, that tenderness can coexist with fire, and that even in the darkest corners, storytelling can set us free.

This is not just a musical, it’s a cultural reckoning. A reminder that love, resilience, and truth aren’t bound by walls or roles, but revealed through the courage to be seen in all our humanity.

Heritage as Power: How Owning Our Roots Makes Us Unstoppable

On Saturday, September 20, fans across the globe gathered for the final concert of Bad Bunny’s No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí Tour, streamed live on Prime Video. From theaters to festivals to salas (living rooms, for my non-Spanish speakers), the watch parties were lit — friends, family, and favorite drinks in hand, united in cultural pride.

The night opened with a powerful tribute to Puerto Rico’s roots. Traditional percussion, tamboras, and the rhythms of bomba y plena filled the stage. A soul-shaking reminder of a culture that has carried generations forward. It was a deliberate nod to history, one that grounded the evening before launching into the global soundscape that Bad Bunny is known for.

And when the beat shifted? It was pure magic. He wove the past into the present, blending tradition with the rhythms of modern Puerto Rico. For three unfiltered hours, it was a dance party, perreo and all, reminding us that music is more than entertainment; it’s identity, it’s truth, it’s legacy.

The ultimate mic-drop moment came when Marc Anthony joined him onstage to perform Preciosa, Puerto Rico’s unofficial anthem. The crowd roared, tears flowed, and suddenly this wasn’t just a concert. It was a declaration: heritage is power.

Bad Bunny didn’t just close his Puerto Rico residency; he made history. The finale, complete with Marc Anthony, surprise songs, and cultural tributes, broke records as a record-shattering Amazon Music livestream. Proof that when we own our roots, the world can’t look away.

Bad Bunny showed us that honoring where we come from doesn’t hold us back; it fuels us. By carrying our roots into the spotlight, we make the past and present unstoppable together.

How to Stop People-Pleasing and Start Saying No

Saying yes to everyone else is saying no to yourself. It sounds simple, but it’s a trap so many of us fall into. I know, because I lived there. For years, I was the “Yes Woman.” I wanted to be liked, loved, and noticed. I thought that if I accepted the terms laid out by others — friends, family, lovers, even bosses — then maybe I’d earn the validation I was craving. Keeping the peace felt like the safest way to exist, but the truth is that peace came at the cost of my own voice.

Somewhere along the way, my boundaries blurred until they disappeared completely. I didn’t even know what they were supposed to look like. And the longer I ignored that gut feeling whispering, This doesn’t feel right, the easier it became to silence myself. I thought sacrifice equaled love. I thought being agreeable was the only way to be valued. But what I really did was abandon myself.

People-pleasing may seem harmless, but it slowly eats away at you. It shows up in your health, your mood, your sense of self. I lived through the headaches, the racing heart, the sleepless nights. Stress became my baseline. And it wasn’t until I hit a wall—mentally, emotionally, physically that I realized something had to change.

Learning to say no was the first step. And let me tell you, “No” is a complete sentence. No to the friend who takes without giving. No to the boss who keeps piling on unpaid work. No to the partner who thrives in your silence. Every no became a yes to my peace, to my worth, to my voice.

Of course, guilt showed up. The first time I said no, I felt selfish. I worried about being judged. But guilt fades. The relief that comes with protecting your energy that stays. Waking up and realizing your life actually belongs to you? That’s worth every uncomfortable moment it takes to get there.

Boundaries aren’t walls. They’re a way of saying, “I know what I need, and I will protect it.” They’re the lines that keep you whole. And if you’re not sure where to start, listen to your body. That knot in your stomach, that rush of resentment, that exhaustion you can’t shake, those are signs you’ve given too much. Trust that inner voice.

Here’s the truth I’ve come to accept: you are not here to be everything for everyone. You’re here to be you. The version of you who knows her worth, speaks her truth, and says no without apology. That woman saved her own life.

AW Truth Bomb 💣
If you’re questioning it, it probably isn’t right. Trust your gut. Protect your peace.

Stop Searching for The One — They’re Already With You

We spend a lifetime chasing “The One,” the mythical soul who can turn our world inside out and make us believe happiness has a face.

I’ve always been in love with love. For years, I lived inside a fairytale where my special someone would find me and never let go. I believed in the magic, the kind that sweeps you away without warning. So many of us do. We grow up dreaming of someone who knows our soul, embraces our flaws, and loves us without hesitation. But what happens when that person never comes?

Millions find their match made in heaven. Others settle for less, clinging to the bare minimum and hoping they can change the one they chose. Deep down, we all want the same thing: to be seen, cherished, and loved in a way that feels like home.

I’ve been married and divorced twice. I have loved deeply, but I’ve learned that love alone cannot hold the weight of a life. Faced with the choice between unconditional devotion and walking away, I chose romance, the kind without limits, the kind that has the potential to turn you into a martyr. The ride-or-die love that crooners sang about in early 2000s R&B. I thought that was noble. I didn’t realize it was self-erasure, but it was the love I learned from my parents.

The women who came before us loved unconditionally. Love was a duty that oftentimes endured betrayal, disrespect, and emptiness; it was all in the name of keeping a family together. Speaking your truth was rebellion. Choosing yourself was unthinkable. They didn’t know any better. We do.

We are still human, still searching. Because no matter how independent we are, we are wired for connection. And when we find someone to love us for exactly who we are, to witness our lives in all our beauty and mess, it feels like a gift from the universe.

But here is what I’ve learned in five decades: love is not meant to wound you. It is not careless with your heart. And it is not the job of another person to complete you.

Your happiness is your responsibility. The love of your life is not hiding on an app, in a supermarket, or waiting in a library. The love of your life is already with you, staring back in the mirror.

Anyone who walks into your life should only add to the love you’ve already built within yourself. That is the truth that will free you. I still believe in love, but the kind that is mature enough to accept flaws and mistakes, and wise enough to know that I am a gem. My fire is rare and my heart pure gold; I’m waiting for the one who knows its weight.

So tell me… who is the love of your life?

When Personal Growth Feels Repetitive (and How to Reignite It)

In 2024, the self-improvement market in the United States reached nearly $12 billion. We chase coaches, trainers, books, seminars, training programs, and podcasts, anything that promises to help us become a better version of ourselves. Yet let’s be real: no one wakes up motivated every single day. Staying inspired takes work, and true growth requires more than a quick fix or a catchy quote.

But what happens when you’ve tried every program, and the thought leader no longer resonates or worse, you’ve run out of gas altogether? Where do you go when the content feels repetitive, the stories lose meaning, and you can no longer connect with the exercises being offered?

Here’s the truth: human beings evolve. Believing we stay the same over time is a mistake that keeps people stuck. Our practices, and even the way we consume content, shift as we grow older and gain new experiences. What once fueled you may no longer light the same fire. This isn’t failure, it’s proof that you’ve changed.

I know this firsthand. Recently, I’ve had to change things up to reignite the fire within. I create content to inspire our community, but that doesn’t mean I feel positive 24/7. Not at all. Like you, I have good days and hard ones, days that leave me depleted and unsure of how to bring light into other people’s lives. I don’t have the answers all the time. I’ve faced my share of blows—pain, loss, heartbreak, betrayal. But what I’ve learned is this: even on the darkest day, there is always a crack of light. And sometimes, finding it means shifting your practices, permitting yourself to evolve, and embracing whatever helps uplift you in the moment.

The self-improvement industry will continue to expand, offering new tools, programs, and thought leaders. But your growth is personal. The most important question isn’t “What should I try next?” it’s “Who am I becoming now?”

Because in the end, personal growth never expires. But your approach must evolve.

Empowerment Series: Esmeralda Baez, Author, Founder, Elite Vision Media on Healing, Heartbreak, and Choosing Peace Over Potential

Esmeralda Baez is the kind of woman who walks into a room and changes the temperature. She’s a Dominican entrepreneur, philanthropist, and founder of Elite Vision Media. The Latina has collected enough accolades to fill a novel. But when she joined me on the AW Confidential Podcast, it wasn’t to talk about her empire. It was to talk about a different kind of rebuilding; the kind that starts after a breakup, chips away at your peace, and leaves you questioning your memory, your worth, and your sanity.

Esmeralda had never spoken publicly about her relationships before. But on this episode, she went there, openly and unapologetically. She described the love that starts with fairytale gestures and ends in emotional chaos. The kind that makes you believe you’ve found something rare until the red flags start waving in your face like a damn parade.

“I fell in love with the idea of love,” she said. “Not the man. The potential. I ignored my intuition until my body started rejecting him. Anxiety, palpitations… my soul knew before I did.”

Sound familiar? Yeah, I’ve been there too. And if you’ve ever loved someone who turned out to be living a double life, you already know: it doesn’t just break your heart, it breaks your grip on reality.

But what made Esmeralda’s story hit even harder was her honesty about the healing. “I forgave him and forgave myself. That’s when I knew I was ready to move on.”

We talked about the gaslighting, emotional manipulation, and mind games that so many women are too ashamed to name. The beauty did not hold back. She called it what it is: psychological abuse. And she called out the cycle that keeps us stuck, romanticizing potential, accepting breadcrumbs, and confusing attention with love.

“I’ve been with wealthy men and broke men,” she said. “But now? I choose peace. Mental stability. Because peace is my love.”

Listen, we don’t always leave when we’re supposed to. Sometimes it takes facts. Sometimes it takes finding a chandelier earring in your shower – true story (my own). And sometimes, the truth has to slap you before you wake up. But what Esmeralda reminded us is that walking away isn’t the hard part. It’s choosing yourself over and over again in the aftermath.

She spoke about going no contact, the power of silence, and the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people during your healing, not the ones who tell you what you want to hear, but the ones who tell you the harsh truth.

Her biggest truth bomb?
“Don’t ignore the red flags. Love yourself. Put yourself first. God first. And get your bag.”

This episode wasn’t just a conversation. It was a mirror held up to every woman who’s ever stayed too long, doubted herself, or confused toxicity with love. Esmeralda didn’t just tell her story; she gave us a blueprint for healing, reclaiming our voice, and choosing peace in a world that romanticizes pain.

To any woman sitting in a relationship that looks perfect from the outside but feels wrong inside – this one’s for you. Your peace is not too much to ask for. Your truth is worth protecting. And your intuition? She’s not lying.

AW Summer Gift Guide 2025: 5 Must-Have Indulgences for Women Who Deserve It All

Because joy is meant to be tasted.

Summer is a sensual season. It asks us to slow down, savor deeply, and say yes to the things that bring us joy without guilt or explanation. There’s a certain kind of magic in the way the sun lingers longer, the drinks hit smoother, and even the smallest pleasures feel like luxury.

I’ve always believed that indulgence doesn’t have to be extravagant; it just has to be intentional. That’s the spirit behind this season’s AW Summer Gift Guide. It’s not about buying things for the sake of having them. It’s about surrounding yourself with flavors, textures, and rituals that feel like a celebration of you. These are the five gems I’ve personally tasted, tested, and fallen in love with this summer. Consider them permission slips to pause and pour a little more joy into your days.

It started with a box of chocolates. Not just any chocolates but handcrafted jewels from Cacao & Cardamom, each one infused with unexpected flavors like cardamom rose, earl grey lavender, and dulce de leche, and s’mores. It was the kind of experience that made me stop mid-bite and whisper “damn” under my breath. Every piece felt like a love letter to my senses, reminding me that indulgence can also be an art form. If you want to treat yourself or someone you adore, this is the kind of chocolate that says, “You deserve something special.” And yes, you can use code AW10 for a little extra sweetness.

On a warmer note, let’s talk tequila. One sip of Anteel’s Coconut Lime Blanco, and I was transported. It’s smooth, bold, and layered with just the right amount of citrus. This isn’t a drink you throw back; it’s one you slow-sip with your favorite playlist in the background, barefoot on the patio, sun kissing your skin. Founded by Nayana Ferguson, the first black woman owner of a tequila brand in the world. Anteel isn’t just about flavor; it’s about legacy, craft, and celebration. It’s the kind of tequila that doesn’t just show up, it shows off.

Now, if you’re anything like me, cookies are a love language. And Romero’s Mexican Wedding Cookies? Pure nostalgia wrapped in powdered sugar. Buttery, delicate, and impossibly comforting, they reminded me of home, of tradition, of simpler times where dessert was made with love and you could taste it. These little clouds of joy are dangerously addictive, so don’t say I didn’t warn you.

But when I wanted to go all in, dessert with zero restraint. I reached for Dorothy Lane’s Killer Brownie® Sundae Kit. And yes, it lives up to the name. Thick, rich brownies with ribbons of original hot fudge and delicious Bada Bing Cherries to build your dreamy sundae? Count me in. It felt indulgent in the best possible way. I made one after a long day, sat on the couch with no makeup and messy hair, and felt luxurious. Because sometimes, being soft with yourself is the boldest thing you can do.

Finally, the moment I laid eyes on Comfort Diva’s modern art placemats, I knew my summer table was about to level up. These pieces aren’t just functional, they’re bold, joyful expressions of color and creativity. Setting the table with them, even for takeout, instantly shifted the energy in the room. It reminded me that beauty doesn’t have to be saved for company. You are the guest of honor in your own life. Treat yourself accordingly.

Summer is fleeting. It comes and goes like a favorite song on repeat, but while it’s here, I hope you let yourself bask in it. I hope you sip slowly, taste boldly, and surround yourself with pleasures that feel like a full-body yes.

Because you deserve a season that doesn’t just pass you by.
You deserve a summer that feeds your spirit and your sweet tooth.

Empowerment Series: Meeta Vengapally on Building Empires in Heels – Motherhood, Media & Making It

Meeta Vengapally is the founder & CEO of Garnysh, a fitness and tech startup from Silicon Valley that uses real-time tracking to help people stay on top of their health and nutrition goals. She doesn’t just enter a room—she owns it. With over 1,000 brand collaborations, a Forbes nod as one of the Top 5 Influencers, and a resume that includes tech founder, writer, and full-time momager, Meeta has redefined what it means to do it all. But behind every highlight reel is a woman who took a risk most wouldn’t dare leaving the security of a successful startup to bet on herself.

“Leaving the tech world wasn’t about walking away; it was about evolving,” Meeta reflects. After successfully exiting her startup, Garnysh, she found herself at a crossroads. Her children were stepping into the world of acting, and the moment called for presence, flexibility, and alignment. “It wasn’t so much about leaving tech,” she explains, “but about aligning my life with what mattered most: family, creativity, and purpose.”

That shift, though empowering, wasn’t without its emotional weight. Letting go of a structured world with predictable metrics meant redefining what success meant. “One of the biggest internal shifts was letting go of perfectionism,” Meeta shares. “In the startup world, you perfect things before launching. In personal branding, you have to show up even when it feels messy.” Her vulnerability became her superpower. “I had to release the constant need for external validation and learn to anchor my confidence internally.”

For many women, the illusion of “having it all” is a pressure that simmers just below the surface. Meeta dismantles it with grace and candor. “Balance isn’t about daily perfection; it’s about presence, alignment, and choosing what matters most in each moment,” she says. Some days are all about her kids’ auditions; others are dedicated to strategy or writing. And amid the chaos, she’s anchored by a 22-year relationship with her husband. “Balance sometimes means prioritizing us. That focus has saved me more times than I can count.”

But even powerhouses feel the weight. “There have been times when walking away from the spotlight felt like the easiest thing to do,” Meeta admits. She navigates burnout by stepping back, resetting, and reminding herself that success is about sustainability, not nonstop hustle. “Reconnecting with my ‘why’ always brings me back to center.”

Though her public persona is polished and purpose-driven, Meeta is quick to share the quiet, grounded truth of her life. “What many don’t realize is that behind the scenes, I’m juggling auditions, cooking all our meals, and volunteering. I lead a simple life, and I love it.”

That grounded approach extends to her role as a mother. Raising two rising stars in an industry that thrives on rejection has given her a deeper sense of purpose. “My biggest goal is to model the values I hope my kids carry with them for life. Their self-worth isn’t defined by whether they book a job. It’s about who they are when no one’s watching.”

When it comes to brand partnerships, Meeta’s choices are intentional. “Authenticity is everything. Even if a partnership looks impressive on paper, if it doesn’t feel right, I won’t do it.” Her compass is impact, not optics. “As the platform grows, staying true to myself means remembering why I started.”

And at her core, Meeta is still evolving. “You can pour your heart and energy into something and still not get the outcome you envisioned. That doesn’t mean you failed,” she says. Accepting that truth freed her from perfectionism and allowed her to embrace the chapters that didn’t go as planned. “I’ve found it’s the raw, imperfect truths—not the curated moments—that empower others to own their own beautifully imperfect stories.”

Meeta Vengapally is proof that building an empire doesn’t require perfection—just courage, clarity, and the willingness to show up, heels and all.

Empowerment Series: Turning Pain into Power: Myrna Cabello’s Unshakable Comeback

In the latest episode of AW Confidential, I sat down with actress, musician, and beautiful human, Myrna Cabello, a woman who embodies the phrase “resilience is earned.”

With a career spanning music, television, and storytelling, Myrna has graced stages and screens, sharing space with talent like Jon Hamm in Apple TV’s Your Friends and Neighbors. But behind the spotlight is a story that shakes the surface, one marked by fear, faith, and fierce determination.

At the height of her creative career, Myrna was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy, a condition that paralyzed one side of her face and threatened to silence her voice — literally. For an actress and singer, it was a devastating blow. “I woke up and couldn’t feel my face,” she recalled. “At first, I thought it was a stroke or a brain tumor. I couldn’t speak clearly. I had to cancel bookings. I thought, maybe this path is no longer mine.”

But Myrna refused to disappear. Instead, she put on oversized sunglasses, walked onstage with her band, and sang her heart out. She didn’t perform to prove anything; she did it to feel alive. It wasn’t polished or perfect, but it was powerful.

Her raw honesty was truly inspiring and heartfelt. She shared how acupuncture, prayer, and a community that poured back into her helped her heal. She journaled through the process, even filming herself during the hardest days. “I just prayed, ‘God, don’t take my voice.’ That was my anchor,” she said.

Even more moving? Myrna wrote a song during that season called Answers — only to later discover that a beloved aunt had passed away while she was recovering. Her family, afraid to stress her further, kept the news from her. When she sang the song for them, they burst into tears. It was a moment of unexpected mourning and magic, where grief and healing met in harmony.

Her return was filled with challenges, one of them was finding confidence again; she shared that it didn’t return overnight. It came in layers — through audacity, faith, and her tribe. “Confidence isn’t a destination,” she said. “It’s a building block. One step, one audition, one act of showing up at a time.”

Today, Myrna is celebrated not only for her artistry but for her impact, honored with Myrna Cabello Day in Austin and named one of the Top 100 Most Influential Latinas in the city’s history. But ask her what legacy she wants to leave, and the answer is simple: to make people feel seen and loved.

AW is about truth – unfiltered. When asked what her advice was to women walking through healing or reinvention? “You only have one life. Live it by your truth, not someone else’s. Sometimes the biggest shift you can make is learning to listen — not to the world, but to yourself.”

And that’s what Myrna Cabello has done — face to face, note by note, truth by truth.

Empowerment Series: Through the Fire – Survival, Reinvention, and Reclaiming Her Power with TV Host, Victoria Levert

Victoria Levert is no stranger to the spotlight. As a seasoned TV host with credits across major networks like NBCUniversal, BET, Viacom, and CBS, she’s known for lighting up red carpets and studio sets with her signature charm and elegance. But when the LA wildfires came roaring through her neighborhood, it wasn’t just her home or possessions that were threatened, it was her identity, her safety, her entire foundation.

In a soul-stirring conversation on the AW Confidential Podcast, Victoria sat down with me to peel back the layers of survival that go far beyond the physical. “People think survival is just about making it out,” Victoria said. “But survival is also spiritual, mental, and emotional. It tests who you are at your core.”

And the fires tested her deeply. Victoria fled her home in Santa Monica with nothing but a laptop, phone, and the clothes on her back. For six hours, she drove through a literal hellscape of gridlocked traffic, flames dancing on both sides of the highway, and no clear plan on what came next.

She lost her job. She lost her home. She lost the life she had carefully built. But she didn’t lose herself.

Instead, she rebuilt, and this time from the inside out.

“I had to get real,” she said. “I had to ask for help, something I never used to do. I had to admit I wasn’t okay. And that’s where the transformation started.”

Out of the ashes came clarity. She launched Southern Spice Co., a catering company that blends Southern roots with her love of hospitality. She also began building Tropical Express, a beverage brand born from her desire to create joy, flavor, and connection. It wasn’t just a career pivot—it was a soul pivot.

“No more chasing titles for validation,” Victoria declared. “Now, I ask myself: Does this make me happy? Does this align with my peace?”

In a world obsessed with image, Victoria’s story is a reminder that true glow-up starts from within. She traded burnout for balance, chaos for calm, and a corporate badge for a calling she owns entirely.

When asked what she’d say to anyone whose life feels like it’s burning down, her response was simple and bold: “You’re the captain of your ship. If the boat’s going in the wrong direction, baby—turn the wheel. You can always start over. And this time, do it better.”

Her truth? That strength isn’t in holding it together; it’s in letting go of what no longer serves you. And with her faith, grit, and unapologetic joy leading the way, Victoria Levert isn’t just surviving—she’s soaring.
