About/My Story
It’s great to meet you. I’m Ali Master, a proud American immigrant, entrepreneur, redeemed-by-Christ Muslim, husband, father, and church leader. I’m here to provide inspiration and fuel so you can advance your own hopes and dreams. I’m mechanically challenged. I love to multitask. Nothing’s too spicy for me. I have a wicked ping-pong serve, and I dream about someday consistently breaking ninety.

My Journey
I’ve lived in our great nation for the past 33 years. Adopted and raised by two loving (albeit naïve to the ways of this world) Shia Muslim Pakistani parents, sexually abused, and spoiled rotten as the only child, my past is checkered with challenges. I landed in Texas back in 1986 where I completed my college educ

I visited my homeland in Pakistan the following summer and was stunned to learn that many denied Al Qaeda involvement and blamed America for the tragedy. While there was certainly much written about the subject, I had not seen or read anything on it from someone with a Muslim background. I wanted Americans to know that not everyone who hailed from a Muslim country hated the United States.

While the idea for my book brewed, the motivation was still lacking. I was recently promoted to partner at Ernst & Young, and new partners and memoirs are not a great combination. It wasn’t until about five years ago that I was inspired to write the book in earnest. Our culture was declining rapidly—the deep political divides, growing racism and hate crimes, fear of immigrants, the rise of ISIS, and the growing entitlement mentality.

Pundits and political leaders were apologizing for America, and many predicted that America’s better days were behind her. It seemed Americans my age and younger had forgotten America’s amazing history and its remarkable value proposition for its citizens, residents, and the world at large.

The first motivation in sharing my story was to remind everyday Americans about the invaluable freedoms at their disposal. It wasn’t enough to present an American success story. I wanted to highlight the very liberties that served as transformative catalysts, giving me the privileges to fail and start over, to love, to choose one’s faith, to be an entrepreneur, and to self-govern.

The second motivation was to give due credit to God who provided the underpinnings of the principles and values of our nation. I examined whether there was sufficient evidence to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the Judeo-Christian God was a key influencer in the formation of our original government. I found that to indeed be the case.

Finally, and most importantly, I was motivated to encourage others who, like me many years ago, may not have found their spiritual anchor yet, or may feel trapped by their cultural duty, tradition, familial, or even regulatory pressure to turn a blind eye to the true identity of Christ (John 11:25). In "Beyond the Golden Door" I openly discuss my own spiritual journey and how the Creator has a tailor-made plan for each of us.

“Americans need a fresh reminder of the amazing nation they have and the power of liberties I see so often taken for granted.”
Ali Master, Beyond the Golden Door: Seeing the American Dream Through an Immigrant's Eyes

“Freedom and bravery—there’s a reason we sing of them in our national anthem. We are free because we are brave.”

“Now that I was learning that converting to Christianity entailed a whole lot more than pats on the back and potluck lunches in affluent North Texas churches. God and I had to have a serious conversation about how I was to handle the realities of being a Muslim convert and facing what was likely to be a hostile environment.”

“I was devastated to learn that both my parents were facing persecution and insults from the entire family. They had failed to raise me to follow the “right path.” The fact that I was adopted was cited as a reason, I was told. Town gossips gleefully whispered juicy details about my misdeeds and my parents’ equally horrific failure to raise their only son to be a good Shia Muslim. The fact that my dear parents were being judged and persecuted felt worse than anything anyone could have done to me personally. It was second only to their desperate pleas with me to label my decisions as mere crimes of passion...”
