Flowers in the Sky

”Where the heavens cradle dreams, flowers in the sky bloom softly, whispering tales of hope to the winds” ~ Mahua, 24.01.25

The quintessential tram, Kolkata
Coloured a beautiful sketch collected from Book-Fair, Kolkata’18, drawn by Netai Biswas.….
As a kid, I was awestruck by my first ride on a tram. Electric-powered boxes on wheels running on rails clamoring on the Kolkata roads, often blocking traffic, nevertheless a fun ride. Slow in pace yet steadily moving ahead towards destination….!!!!!!!

Me-mories
The thoughts I had,
I kept them safe and secure
Held in closed bottles
Huddled in a corner obscure.
And when I rummaged through
The safe corner;
The warmth of the memories
Left me to ponder.
I realised soon, suppressed those flashes
Thus woke up from my reverie,
Hurriedly locked them back up and threw away the key;
Lest it would re-kindle the fire hiding in the ashes.
I would rather wait;
Maybe on an elusive sunny day
Should you hold me and delve into my eyes,
You might find the long lost key,
And re-discover the best part of me.

The Wait
The wait was almost over,
Gazing out of the window
I could see the lashing waves,
Witness the vastness of the ocean.
The vastness made me scared,
Scared and alone,
As if it could engulf into itself
My entire existence.
But I was certain
Sure of my love coming to my rescue
Holding my hand firmly
And make me overcome my horror in a glimpse.
As the rise of the Sun was absolute
I was assured of my phone ringing
Almost hallucinating its ring throughout the night
Ringing and announcing my darling’s arrival.
Still the wait was long
Wearing me of my enthusiasm
To see the smile, the glitter in her eyes,
Like the after shower rainbow in the skies.
The heat of the day made me tired
My eyes closed with the phone in my hand
And I was drowning not able to breathe
Hand outstretched in despair.
Then I felt the touch so rare
Awakened by the gentle hug and a sweet kiss
Leaning on to me there was my reason to live
And I realized,
Love is not what you ask for,
But love is what you give.
