Thanks for reading Cynthia!
Such a great question. At the end of the book, I talk about our crises of intimacy and imagination. I believe we need to get intimate with our own experiences (the joys and the sorrows) so that we have more capacity to become intimate with the word. When we can meet experience with clarity (seeing clearly what's there) and kindness (meeting whatever we encounter with care), then we can respond to life with an open heart of understanding that we are in fact not separate form nature. We ARE nature.
Of course, this internal meets external awareness requires we also know our capacities. It's good to know what's going on in the world and understand how we may be able to help. This includes knowing both our talents/callings and also our energy. I often ask myself "what is mine to do?" -- that means what am I good at, and what do I have the energy for.
I hope that's helpful!

“Although we are not one, we are not separate. And although we are not separate, we are not the same.”
Sebene Selassie, You Belong: A Call for Connection

“Here’s a famous quote from Japanese Zen teacher Suzuki Roshi: “All of you are perfect just as you are. And you could use a little improvement.” The second sentence sounds like a sly insult, but it’s actually an invitation into a deep self-love.”
Sebene Selassie, You Belong: A Call for Connection

“I was having a bumpy ride. I could sit there all day every day with my blabbering, deluded mind going on and on. But the only real possibility for creative response and for transformation was to invite kindness, get curious, cultivate ease, and smooth my own ride.”
