There is a lot to appreciate about this book. About the subject matter, the representation, the vivid prose, the imaginative connections between the vast and the cellular. Really really beautiful writing. But I struggled while reading this, often fee ...more

This book was not done yet. It's repetitive, frequently incautious in his claims, regularly unnecessarily ad hominem, and often it reads like a barstool rant, which is fine if you're on a barstool I suppose. It's a real shame because the line of argu ...more

"Unfortunately a chore to finish. I don’t disagree with the author’s arguments and I think he makes a compelling case for how much journalistic malpractice there is on the topic of policing, but I really think he needed a better editor or more rounds " Read more of this review »

Gerald I never said it wasn't ridiculous! The Last bit of serious literature I enjoyed was probably Cannery Row. Oh, wait, I also read A Confederacy of Dunces, which was great in its weird little way.

Apparently I need to get crackin' on updating my profile! It's not particularly representative of all that I have read, not by a long shot.

Gerald I might be willing to give Great Gatsby another shot, but it is currently in the long list of otherwise good books ruined by my reading them in high school English class.
