Faith, Purpose, and a Release Day That Feels Different

Today, Old Town Symphony releases into the world — my 12th novel.
Normally, release day would be a time of excitement and celebration. But this hasn’t been a normal week. Seeing someone assassinated for beliefs that I share has left me wrestling with what it means to live out faith with boldness, clarity, and peace.
Because I, too, stand for faith, traditional marriage, and personal responsibility. These convictions are woven into who I am and the stories I tell. If you’ve been reading my books, you’ve probably already sensed this, but perhaps it’s time I said it plainly.
Again and again, I’ve come back to these words:
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” (Col. 3:17)
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” (Col. 3:23)
For me, that means writing stories that…
Speak truth when the world offers confusion
Bring light when shadows feel overwhelming
Offer hope to hearts that are weary
Remind us that love conquers fear
Point toward redemption, always
That’s why Old Town Symphony feels different releasing today. It’s not just another book, but another opportunity to be faithful in what God has called me to do — to use the gift He’s given me with renewed purpose and clarity.
If you’d like to read Old Town Symphony, you can find it here. I poured my heart into this story, and I hope it brings you the same comfort that writing it brought me: a reminder that even in our darkest moments, redemption is always possible.

He thinks he knows…

Sometimes the deepest wounds aren’t from love lost, but from what betrayal makes us believe about ourselves.
For Zach, trust once ended in disaster. Now he’s convinced he can see the warning signs and keep his heart safe. But when Kezia walks into his world, polished and guarded yet achingly real, his certainty begins to crumble.
Old Town Symphony is the story of what happens when self-protection collides with the possibility of love—and the risk of being truly known.
Available now in paperback, with the eBook up for pre-order everywhere.
Find it here.
Zach Falconer, music entrepreneur, creater and executive producer of the reality show StarboundOne of the things I love most about writing romance is exploring how the past shapes the present. Every character carries scars—some visible, some hidden—and those wounds affect the way they love, trust, and protect themselves.
Zach Falconer is no exception.
Six years ago, he let someone into his life who didn’t deserve that trust. The betrayal cut deep, not because of lingering feelings, but because of what it revealed about him. He saw himself as strong and discerning, and discovering how easily he’d been fooled shook the foundation of who he thought he was.
Ever since, Zach has lived by a simple rule: never be caught off guard again. He’s convinced himself he can read people. That he can see the warning signs. That he’ll never fall for charm masquerading as character.
But here’s the problem with building walls too high: they don’t just keep danger out—they keep connection out, too.
When Kezia enters his orbit, Zach thinks he knows exactly what kind of woman she is. Poised. Polished. A little too perfect. All the red flags are waving, and his instinct is to protect himself by keeping his distance.
Yet the longer he listens, the more he sees something different. Something real. And that terrifies him even more—because it means his defenses might not be as unshakable as he believed.
Zach’s journey in Old Town Symphony is about more than falling in love. It’s about learning the difference between self-protection and self-imprisonment. It’s about discovering that true strength isn’t in shutting people out, but in daring to let the right person in.
If you’ve ever wrestled with trust—wondering if your heart will only betray you again—I think you’ll find something of yourself in Zach’s story.
Old Town Symphony is available now in paperback, with the eBook up for pre-order everywhere, releasing on September 17, 2025.

The Beautiful Challenge of Clean, Slow Burn Romance: Why Less Is More (and So Much Harder)

I love a good slow burn romance—the kind where chemistry simmers under the surface, every glance feels loaded, and the eventual first kiss makes you want to cheer.
But every so often, someone asks, “How could that be interesting?”
Writing clean romance isn’t about avoiding passion—it’s about showing it differently. Without physical heat to fall back on, a clean slow burn has to deliver through:
Emotional intimacy that feels more vulnerable than any bedroom sceneIntellectual connection that sparks off the pageUnspoken longing that makes readers hold their breathMeaningful glances that carry unspoken wordsSmall touches that feel earth-shattering in contextAnd it’s not easy, as my fellow authors will agree.
Why Slow Burn Feels So Satisfying
In a world where so much is instant, slow burn romance invites readers to linger. To watch two people truly get to know one another. To savour the moments between the moments—the shared laughter, the accidental brushes of hands, the conversations that mean more than either character dares admit.
When I was writing Old Town Symphony, Kezia and Zach circled each other for months of story time before acknowledging their feelings. Every shared look, every understated gesture had to matter. That’s why, when the first kiss finally came, it wasn’t just sweet—it was a crescendo.
Some of my favourite moments happen when music becomes their bridge—hands meeting briefly over piano keys, voices blending in harmony, the unspoken awareness that they’re making something beautiful together.
Why It’s Harder Than It LooksSustaining tension without shortcuts: Every conversation, every bit of subtext, has to do the heavy lifting.Making every touch count: A hand on a shoulder or fingers brushing during a photo shoot must feel electric because it’s rare.Keeping pacing believable: Too fast and you lose the magic; too slow and you risk reader patience. Finding the sweet spot takes instinct and revision.Creating “heat” through emotion: Some of the most intense moments I’ve ever written were arguments or quiet confessions—not because of what happened physically, but because of what those moments meant to the characters. Why It’s Worth the ChallengeClean, slow burn romance readers aren’t here for instant gratification. They read for the journey—the slow unfolding of trust, affection, and deep emotional connection. They want to believe in a love that’s built to last.
When a reader tells me they stayed up late just to see two characters finally hold hands—or that they connected with a character’s personal journey—I know the challenge was worth it.
Because in clean romance, “less” really does become more. The anticipation is part of the joy, and the emotional payoff is all the sweeter for having been earned.

When Your Book Gets Featured in a Podcast!

You know those moments when you wonder if you’re dreaming? That’s exactly how I felt when I learned my book was going to be featured on “Fangirling with Narelle”!
There’s something absolutely surreal about hearing another author—especially someone as accomplished as Narelle Atkins—talking about your story. The characters you created in the quiet of your writing space, the scenes you rewrote countless times, the story that lived in your head for so long… suddenly they’re being discussed out there in the world!
I’ll admit it: I’ve listened to the episode multiple times. (Hey, no judgment, right?
) Each time, I still get those butterflies of excitement, that “is this really happening?” feeling that makes me want to happy dance around my office.
For my fellow book lovers who enjoy diving deep into story discussions, you can find “Fangirling with Narelle” on YouTube and all major podcast platforms. Trust me, you’ll want to binge listen and subscribe—Narelle’s enthusiasm for books is absolutely infectious!

Behind the Scenes: Crafting a Troubled Marriage Romance

Ever wonder how authors create couples who are mad enough at each other to separate, but not so mad that readers throw the book across the room? Let me take you into the messy kitchen of crafting a marriage-in-trouble romance…
When I started writing Small Town Harmony, I knew I was attempting one of the trickiest recipes in the romance cookbook. Marriage-in-trouble stories require a precise balance of ingredients. Too much conflict, and readers lose faith in the relationship. Too little, and they wonder why the couple separated in the first place.
Key Ingredients: Building Believable ConflictHere’s a peek at my recipe development process:
First, I needed two characters with legitimate grievances. But like any good chef, I had to taste-test carefully. Some conflicts were too bitter (abuse was off the menu entirely), while others weren’t substantial enough to threaten a marriage. I needed problems that felt real and relatable, but not unforgivable.
Then came the crucial ingredients: lingering love, shared history, and that spark that made them fall for each other in the first place. These had to be folded in gently, showing up in small moments and memories that reminded readers (and the characters themselves) why this relationship was worth fighting for.
Taste-Testing: Adding Drama Without BitternessOf course, no marriage story would be complete without watching our characters make some… let’s call them “questionable” choices along the way. Readers might want to grab these characters by the shoulders and give them a good shake. But that’s exactly what authors want—readers so invested in the relationship that they’re mentally yelling, “Can’t you see what you’re throwing away?” Because those feelings only come when readers can see how good these two could be together.
The secret ingredient? Hope. Every good romance needs it, but in a marriage-in-trouble story, it needs to be sprinkled in with extra care. Too much too soon feels unrealistic. Too little, and readers lose faith. Finding that balance meant adding just enough sweet moments between the bitter ones, like sugar in a complex sauce.
Pressure Cooking: The Small Town SettingAll of this had to simmer in the pressure cooker of a small town setting within a close-knit family and church community, the fishbowl of a celebrity couple, where private pain becomes public spectacle, and everyone has an opinion about your marriage.
Serving It Up: Reader ReactionsHow do you know when you’ve got the recipe just right? When early readers tell you they’re emotionally invested in both characters, rooting hard for their reconciliation, and staying up late to finish “just one more chapter.” I’m deeply grateful (and more than a little relieved!) that early reviews are calling this my best book yet. Like any chef, there’s no better feeling than hearing your dish hit all the right notes.
Small Town Harmony releases in one week, and I can’t wait to serve it up to readers. I hope you’ll find it has just the right blend of complex emotions, authentic conflicts, and earned forgiveness—with a satisfying helping of hope for dessert.

Why I Love Writing Marriage-in-Trouble Romance

There’s something undeniably magical about writing those first kisses and wedding proposals. But lately, I’ve been drawn to a different kind of love story—one that starts after the “I do.”
Marriage-in-trouble romances show us that love isn’t just about the flutter of first attraction. Sometimes, it’s about the courage to stay, the strength to rebuild, and the faith to believe in second chances with the same person.
These stories resonate deeply because they reflect a truth we all know: real love isn’t just about the mountain-top moments. It’s about choosing each other in the valleys too.
That’s why I wrote Small Town Harmony (releasing February 5th. The paperback is already out!). I wanted to explore what happens when the music fades and real life intrudes on the happily-ever-after. What does it take to restore a marriage when communication is fractured and hurts run deep?
Some of my favorite marriage-in-trouble romances that demonstrate just how powerful these stories can be:
Fireproof by Alex Kendrick Marrying Abby by Melanie Snitker The Miracle of Mistletoe by Emily Dana Botrous[I’ve shared more thoughts about why these stories matter so much in this post over at Australasian Christian Writers. Come join the conversation!]

“Home Town Melody” Releases on July 24th!

I am beyond thrilled to announce the upcoming release of my latest novel, Home Town Melody. It’s the first in a new trilogy, which I’ve called Rhapsody of Grace. The paperback is already out, but the ebook arrives on July 24th. This book holds a special place in my heart, and I can’t wait to share it with my readers. It’s a story rich in faith, the trials of forgiveness, and the beauty of second chances—all set against the backdrop of contemporary Christian music.
About the Book:Home Town Melody centers around Levi Falconer, a Christian recording artist who is about to face his past in a way he never anticipated. Following a one-night stand, Levi left behind more than just memories; he unknowingly fathered a child. Now, as he and his brothers are reuniting for a much-anticipated album, Levi discovers the existence of his little boy, Owen.
The boy’s mother, Adria Baines, is a woman of strong resolve who has weathered life’s storms, from aging out of foster care to single motherhood. With few options left, Adria reaches out to Levi for help, setting the stage for a story of unexpected family ties and the journey toward healing.
Early Praise:The feedback from early reviewers has been incredibly heartwarming and affirming. One reviewer described the book as “a warm blanket wrapped around your heart,” praising its exploration of trust and forgiveness. Another shared, “I love how in the story we see God’s love for each of us… It was a wonderful story of redemption and love and learning to trust.”
Why I’m Excited:Home Town Melody is not just a romance. It’s a journey through personal failings, public pressures, and spiritual renewal. This novel reflects my deepest hopes for what Christian fiction can offer: a mirror to our imperfections and a map to a brighter, hope-filled future. Whether you are a long-time fan of Christian romance or someone looking for a story about life’s second chances, this book is for you.
I believe Levi and Adria’s story will inspire and move you, just as it did for me while writing it.
