What Makes a Good Book? Depends On What Job You Hired It to Do

What job do readers hire a book to read? To make them laugh? Shock them? Sweep them away? Or something else?

One of the things I love about writing contemporary Christian romance is that no two readers come to a story looking for exactly the same thing.

Some are searching for a book that will make them laugh. Others want to be challenged, comforted, surprised, or simply carried away for a few hours. And sometimes what we’re looking for changes from one week to the next.
