Hi, I’m K.M. Chandler. A Texas girl at heart, I grew up in Midland before making the move to Houston my freshman year of high school. I am a graduate of Mays Business School at Texas A&M University in College Station, where I studied Marketing with a minor in Creative Writing. I have been writing stories since I first picked up a pen as a child. The first few pages (in their earliest draft) of my first book, The Key, were written on wide-ruled notebook paper in my bedroom when I was ten years old. While the quality of writing has changed greatly since then, the heart of the story has not. I would love to travel all over and see the lands that Bilbo and Fellowship saw on their adventures. But most of all, I would want to stay with the elves in Rivendell and Lothlorien. (Of course, this would be before they left for Valinor.)(less)

Sometimes I will force myself to keep writing even when I'm not feeling particularly inspired. I give myself permission to write freely, even if I don't think it's very good, and to edit or remove that section later. Often times I find that I end up coming up with some pretty good stuff in those pushes. Other days I will put the laptop down and do something else creative like painting/drawing or music, or something physical, like dancing, yoga, or going for a run. I may even go take a walk in nature or meet up with a friend for coffee- anything to get my mind and body moving, take away the pressure of performing, and get my creative juices flowing. Then I will come back to the story and try again. I've found that often the inspiration we need is outside our doors if we are willing to go out and find it. (less)

No Living Man Am I

Hello and welcome to the fourth and final installment of Strong Female Characters: May We Read Them. May We Write Them. May We Be Them. Guess what—I saved the best for last. As I’ve mentioned before, my dad read the The Lord of the Rings books to me at an early age, and I was […]

Personally, I found it to be pretty boring. Important perspectives to share and preserve, but the story itself didn't catch my attention, to the point where I couldn't bring myself to finish it ...more
