I teach courses about sexuality, race, gender, and American popular culture. I conduct ethnographic research into the everyday lived experiences of Black gay, lesbian, and bisexual people in the U.S. I frequently give talks about the intersections of popular culture and critical theory. I write articles about ethnography, language, and Black Feminist and Queer Theory. My latest book, The Black Queer Work of Ratchet examines the word "ratchet," exploring the way that it is used within my field site and within broader U.S. cultural spaces. ...more
