His biggest competition against Philip took place in 1581. For the sake of the novel, I adjusted and compressed events to keep it flowing. Just before turning 12, the Queen visited Castle Hedingham, and so all of these true events were combined for the sake of the storytelling. We do not know if any jousting took place at Hedingham, but similar events would have occurred. (less)
