Marie Weiler has wanted to be a novelist from the time she was ten years old. Inspired by the Irish literature and folklore that had played such a huge role in developing her extensive imagination as a girl, beginning in the fall of 2016, she spent the next year and a half writing her debut novel Olivia.

She is also the author of The Feast of the Elves & Trolls, and Big Trouble in Little Chicago. If she isn’t writing, you could probably catch her reading, gaming, or filmmaking. Marie was born and raised in Saskatchewan, Canada, where she still resides with her family and dog, Jiro.

I would go swimming by the pristine shores, enjoy a banquet and dance with other mythical creatures, and explore the world by land and by sea for hours on end. Also, stargazing would be a must on my Narnian bucket list.(less)

For one, and probably the most important, it satiates the restlessness I feel when I don't write. I feel called by God to write the ideas He has given me, and when I don't, I am miserable. So writing gives me an inner sense of happiness, peace, and purpose.

Secondly, any career where you get to spend countless hours creating new worlds, characters, and plots is super cool. I can't imagine NOT doing this for a living; that sounds like purgatory.(less)

How "Jaws" Influenced My Novel

Spoiler Alert: If you haven't read my novel Olivia yet, then you might not want to read this post until after you have done so.

The Bible is stocked full of stories about the most unlikely of people whom God uses to carry out His plans for salvation. And in the exact same way, He can also help people through the most unimaginable means available to them. In this instance, I speak of the things whic Read more of this blog post »

“It's high time that Christians made up their minds to do something . . . What are we going to show in the way of resistance-as compared to the Communists, for instance-when all this terror is over? We will be standing empty-handed. We will have no answer when we are asked: What did you do about it? ”
Hans Scholl

Sophie Scholl
“The real damage is done by those millions who want to 'survive.' The honest men who just want to be left in peace. Those who don’t want their little lives disturbed by anything bigger than themselves. Those with no sides and no causes. Those who won’t take measure of their own strength, for fear of antagonizing their own weakness. Those who don’t like to make waves—or enemies. Those for whom freedom, honour, truth, and principles are only literature. Those who live small, mate small, die small. It’s the reductionist approach to life: if you keep it small, you’ll keep it under control. If you don’t make any noise, the bogeyman won’t find you. But it’s all an illusion, because they die too, those people who roll up their spirits into tiny little balls so as to be safe. Safe?! From what? Life is always on the edge of death; narrow streets lead to the same place as wide avenues, and a little candle burns itself out just like a flaming torch does. I choose my own way to burn.”

“Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did.”

Hi, Sarah!

Thanks for reaching out; I'm pleased you liked my profile and motto. I really enjoyed rereading childhood classics like Hilda Van Stockum's Cottage at Bantry Bay books when researching my first novel, as she incorporated Irish folklore and some mythology in there. But these days, other than occasionally watching Song of the Sea, I haven't been delving into that genre because of other writing projects.
