Call for Anthology Submissions

Are you a writer interested in mythology and queer representation? We want YOU!

My editor Alex and I have pitched a kids' anthology of queer folklore and mythology where we're hoping to gather submissions from 10-15 different contributors of different cultural backgrounds telling a queer story from their culture's folklore or mythology. Talks have been going well, but the publisher, Jessica Kingsley Publishers (an imprint of Hachette), would like to see more submissions to get a better feel for what the final product would look like before green-lighting.

Submissions should be around 100-200 words, focused on one story, and be written in a style appropriate for late elementary/early middle school. If you would like to include sources for the story, you can put them at the end in a bibliography, Chicago/Turabian style is preferred.

We especially would like submissions from writers of color, but white authors are also welcome to submit.
If you would like to write something for us, you can use this form (https://forms.gle/UME6WrGM2dwkffubA) to submit. Please keep in mind that submitting does not guarantee that you will be included in the final anthology, but we will reach out to you via e-mail if we want to use your writing.

Thanks for your time!

Happy NaNoWriMo!

Goodnight/Good morning to any writers that are up this early/this late!

It is officially 1:38 AM November 1st here in Tennessee which means that the dreaded National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is already underway.

For the uninitiated, NaNoWriMo is an organization that encourages writers to write a 50k novel in just one month, averaging 1,667 words per day. Some actually do stick to one project, and others, like myself, just challenge ourselves to write 50k words of anything at all during the time limit.

If you are participating and want to be buddies on the Nano website, you can find me under the name Cassandra Jules Corrigan there.

Good luck and happy writing to anyone who participates!

First book signing!

If you are in Middle Tennessee, I will be signing copies of The Pronoun Book at BoroPride, this Saturday 09/17/22 beginning at 3pm! The event is taking place at Cannonsburgh Village in Murfreesboro, TN.

If you already have a copy of any of my books, I will sign them for free, but if not I will have copies of The Pronoun Book available for purchase. Unfortunately, copies of letters i will never send and Spirals and Ladders will not be delivered in time, so they won't be available to buy the day of, my apologies!

Come say hi, take some selfies, free pride beads and candy!

Belated Upcoming Project News!

Phew! It's been an intense couple of months in America, huh? (Actually, scratch that, it's been an intense several years in America.)

With everything going on in the world, I forgot to update here with the news. Back in June, I signed two new book deals with Jessica Kingsley Publishers, the same publishing house that I made my debut with The Pronoun Book with. Believe me, that was a great way to kick off pride month!

Book one is a bit of a follow up to the Pronoun Book and it's tentatively titled The Gender Book Binary, Non-binary and Beyond. Essentially, it's another explainer book that goes into a wide variety of genders. Casey and Ellie are reprising their roles as the narrators for this book, and I'm so excited that Jem Milton is returning to illustrate. Jem did such an incredible job with the Pronoun Book, so I'm ecstatic that they are coming back for round 2. Writing this book was so much fun, because I got to discover new genders in my research that I never knew about!

Book 2 is *potentially* the beginning of a new series of queer positive kids' books. My Culture, My Gender, Me came about because there was just so much content for The Gender Book, that my editor and I decided that it would be best to create a whole new spin off that could give certain genders that are specific to cultural groups such as Two Spirit, muxe, and Māhū the spotlight they deserve. Right now, we are in the process of finding and negotiating with an artist that identifies as one of the cultural genders featured in the book. We are also in the process of getting suggestions from sensitivity readers. That part is super super important because I don't belong to any of the genders or cultures in this book.

What's next? Well, besides all the edits for those two books, my editor and I have discussed following up My Culture, My Gender and Me with a book about various trans historical figures, so as far as kids' books goes, that's the next big thing I'll be working on.

But, being the ADHD person I am, I'm always jumping around from project to project. Hopefully with NANOWRIMO coming up, maybe I'll make headway with some of my WIPs that are more aimed at adults. Fingers crossed!

First Post and Exciting Updates!

Hello everyone!

Welcome to my first blog post as a Goodreads author! (Wow, that's crazy to think about! Me, an author?!)

Anyway, I just wanted to share some exciting news. As some of you may know, I've been working with Jessica Kingsley Publishers, and can now announce that my debut children's book, The Pronoun Book: He, She, They, and Me, is set to be released October 21st, 2021. The book will be released simultaneously in print and eBook format, and features amazing illustrations by Jem Milton.

Additionally, I have some poetry projects in the works, and I'm hoping to self-publish those later this year if all goes well.

That's all for now! Hopefully I'll be able to get back to you soon with pre-order info soon.

-CJC
