Belated Upcoming Project News!

Phew! It's been an intense couple of months in America, huh? (Actually, scratch that, it's been an intense several years in America.)

With everything going on in the world, I forgot to update here with the news. Back in June, I signed two new book deals with Jessica Kingsley Publishers, the same publishing house that I made my debut with The Pronoun Book with. Believe me, that was a great way to kick off pride month!

Book one is a bit of a follow up to the Pronoun Book and it's tentatively titled The Gender Book Binary, Non-binary and Beyond. Essentially, it's another explainer book that goes into a wide variety of genders. Casey and Ellie are reprising their roles as the narrators for this book, and I'm so excited that Jem Milton is returning to illustrate. Jem did such an incredible job with the Pronoun Book, so I'm ecstatic that they are coming back for round 2. Writing this book was so much fun, because I got to discover new genders in my research that I never knew about!

Book 2 is *potentially* the beginning of a new series of queer positive kids' books. My Culture, My Gender, Me came about because there was just so much content for The Gender Book, that my editor and I decided that it would be best to create a whole new spin off that could give certain genders that are specific to cultural groups such as Two Spirit, muxe, and Māhū the spotlight they deserve. Right now, we are in the process of finding and negotiating with an artist that identifies as one of the cultural genders featured in the book. We are also in the process of getting suggestions from sensitivity readers. That part is super super important because I don't belong to any of the genders or cultures in this book.

What's next? Well, besides all the edits for those two books, my editor and I have discussed following up My Culture, My Gender and Me with a book about various trans historical figures, so as far as kids' books goes, that's the next big thing I'll be working on.

But, being the ADHD person I am, I'm always jumping around from project to project. Hopefully with NANOWRIMO coming up, maybe I'll make headway with some of my WIPs that are more aimed at adults. Fingers crossed!
