My home in 1961 was in Arlington MA, two towns to the east of Lincoln. My father, mother and I would occasionally visit an uncle in Concord, MA, and when driving back home one day on Route 2A, we passed Old Bedford Road. My father pointed out the road to my mother and told her that it was the road that Joan Risch lived on. For reasons I don't understand, his comment stayed in the back of my mind until I retired in 2015 (54 years later). At that point I decided to research Joan's case and write a book about her disappearance.(less)

Joan Risch's Disappearance: The Early Police Investigation

Joan Risch's disappearance in 1961 has always been both fascinating and tragic. It happened when I was 12 years old and living in Arlington, MA, two towns east of Lincoln MA, where Joan lived. I have always remembered the case, and after I retired in 2015, I decided to write about it.

My book, A KITCHEN PAINTED IN BLOOD: THE UNSOLVED DISAPPEARANCE OF JOAN RISCH, is the result of my research.
