I'll also revisit books that I've loved, and read and read through the years.

And perhaps most important of all: I keep sitting down and trying to write. You don't have to have an idea to write, or to be inspired. Just sit down, and write one good sentence. Work on you craft. (less)

“Tolan feels the tears running down her face, only now they have nothing to do with a broken crayon or the hole it tore in her picture, and everything to do with how light the book is in her mother's hands.”

“Guilt. It hurts almost as much as her body.”

“A writer, no matter what the context, is made an outsider by the demands of his vocation,”
Breece D'J Pancake, The Stories of Breece D'J Pancake

“A lightning flash peels shadows from the yard and leaves a dark strip under the cave of the barn. I feel a scum on my skin in the still air. I take my supper to the porch.”
Breece D'J Pancake, The Stories of Breece D'J Pancake

“Revolutionary’ discipline depends on political consciousness—on an understanding of why orders must be obeyed; it takes time to diffuse this, but it also takes time to drill a man into an automaton on the barrack-square.”
George Orwell, Homage to Catalonia

“In case I have not said this somewhere earlier in the book I will say it now: beware of my partisanship, my mistakes of fact and the distortion inevitably caused by my having seen only one corner of events. And beware of exactly the same things when you read any other book on this period of the Spanish war.”
George Orwell, Homage to Catalonia

“I am looking out of my window in an anxious and resentful state of mind, oblivious to my surroundings, brooding perhaps on some damage done to my prestige. Then suddenly I observe a hovering kestrel. In a moment everything is altered. The brooding self with its hurt vanity has disappeared. There is nothing now but kestrel. And when I return to thinking of the other matter it seems less important”
Iris Murdoch, The Sovereignty of Good
